Bhuthanatha Temples Overview

Ranked 4 of 25 sightseeing in Badami

The two temples of Bhuthanatha face the Agastya Lake. The temple depicts the early phases and modes of South Indian architectural styles and is made of local sandstone.

Both the temples are dedicated to the Lord Shiva, who is present here in the form of the God of Souls or Bhuthanatha. The boulders at the back of this temple have sculptures of few Jain figures and avatars of Vishnu.

Wonderful !!

View of this temple from Badami caves is wonderful . One can even get a closer view of this temple. There is a path leading to this temple once you come out of caves.

Temple on the Lake bank

The temple on the bank of Agastya lake right in front of Cave temples of Badami is Bhootnatha Temple. The temple looks submerged in rainy season when the water in the lake is more. Other times, the water in the lake is less but the temple still looks as if it is in water. The temple is backed by cliffs and looks beautiful from a distance when one can see the temple in lake and cliffs.
