Binkhambi Ganesh Mandir Overview

Ranked 4 of 22 sightseeing in Kolhapur

Binkhambi Ganesh Mandir was constructed in 1882 and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is believed that the idol of Lord Ganesha enshrined in the temple was discovered while repairing a well. Further, it is also believed that the idol was much older than the time of its actual establishment in the temple. Popular as Joshirao Ganapati Temple among locals, it is thronged by numerous archaeological students for studying its structure.

One of the important features of the temple is that its sanctum has been built without the use of any pillar. The exterior of the temple is adorned with stone carved tortoise along with many other carved structures. It is believed that as the original idol was very small in size, a 90 cm tall idol was consecrated in temple for performing the religious activities. Besides students, the temple is also thronged by numerous devotees and tourists, especially during the festive celebrations of Ganesha Chaturthi.

Nice place to visit

The temple is very close to the main temple of Mahalaxmi and is important from religious point of view. Nobody could give any information as to why it is named as Binkhambi which means without any pillar.

Do visit if interested in architecture

Visited Temple of Lord Ganesh just at a distance of 1 km from Mahalakshmi Temple. This is important temple after the Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur. The Binkhambi Ganesh Mandir is dedicated to Lord Ganesha with a very unique feature. The temple has been constructed without the use of even a single pillar. This is the main reason why the temple attracts not only the devotees, but also persons interested in architecture. Do Visit.

Though small should visit

The word Binkhambi means this temple has been built without any column in its structure. Though its a small temple, everyone who visits Mahalakshmi Temple will visit this temple.
