Brahmasarovar Overview

Ranked 1 of 91 sightseeing in Kurukshetra

Brahmasarovar is an ancient sarovar with historical and religious importance and it is also one of the largest manmade bathing tanks in Asia. Abul Fazl, who was one of the historians in Akbar’s court, called it a ‘mini sea made by man’.

The size of the large tank is about 3600x1500 feet with separate bathing spaces for men and women along with arched enclosures. As per the religious beliefs of people, a single dip in the sarovar is equal to performing a Asvamedha Yajna which why this place is very popular among devotees especially during the solar eclipse.

First of its kind

This is claimed to be the largest man made sarovar in India and the claim has not been refuted. A huge sarovar with a beautiful temple, has now become central place for Gita Jayanti celebrations during December every year. Now in the evening we have Aarti also on Haridwar and Banaras pattern. Best time to visit is during Gita Jayanti Samaroh, when you can see and buy handicraft items. The food served, especially Rajasthani is mouth-watering.

A peaceful and beautiful place

It is a very large, beautiful and sacred sarovar divided by a road into two parts. Very well developed and maintained, it is a must visitable place if you are in Kurukshetra specially at the time of 'Gita Jayanti Utsav' and ' Solar Eclipse'.

Nice to go for a walk

Best place for morning and evening walk in Kurukshetra with full of lush green parks and clean roads. But one problem is there that is large sound of loudspeakers that irritate the visitors otherwise all is good.

Great experience

It was a great experience at Kurukshetra, saw Brahamasarovar there it was believed that when war of Mahabharat was going on, Duryodhana hide in this sarovar. It looks great with clean water filled in it, you can see your reflection in water there. Surrounded by many temples there and great experience.

The place of cold Breeze and awesome temples

Brahmasarovar, it is a place surrounded by clean and cold water lake. It has an interesting lake that has a few modernized temples. It is interesting to see such large lake with a hard boundary and cold water with amazing tides.

Best place ever seen, visit during Gita Jayanti mela

It belongs to Kurukshetra Haryana, From the Childhood I've been to this place happy times or sad times. I have seen lot of cities and destinations but never seen the place like this. This place has religious importance and has giant sarover ( water tank ). At the time of sunset when you sit at one corner of sarover it feels damn relaxing. Temple is also there at the centre of tank. At the time of sunset aarti also happen daily. People often found walking and jogging across sarovar.Draupadi koop and lord Hanuman temple are also the one of main attractions of this place. Gita Jayanti mela also held at the month of November. In that people from different states come and show their Culture in terms of food, art & Crafts etc. I strongly recommend travellers to visit this place.

Lovely man made tank

It is one of the largest man made tanks in India. It is again a water body contain in a huge area. If you are visiting the place in evening then you might a very peculiar activity. So waves in the water acts as a amplifier of sound. When we visited this place then there was a singer who sung right over the bed of water in such a way that even without mike his voice was amplified and carried over water till the other end of this huge tank. We have some really amazing talent in India to which we do need really pay heed.
