Chail Palace Hotel Overview

Ranked 2 of 15 sightseeing in Chail

Chail Palace was built by the Maharaja of Patiala in the year 1891. The most popular hotel in Chail, this palace was once the lodging place of the British. This magnificent palace covers 75 acres of land and is surrounded by pine and deodar trees.

As per folklore, this palace was built as a result of the expulsion of Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh, from Shimla due to his association with the daughter of the British Commander-in-Chief. So he built his own palace at Chail. The palace encompasses several deluxe rooms and suites, which are adorned with antique furniture, so as to attract tourists.

Overrated palace

Palace is converted into hotel, so its not fully accessible, most of it is for residents only. One can make out that shooting movie 3 idiots was done here.

Not very good and nothing to see

Just single day visit is ok, nothing great there, no market nothing for tourist just hills thats it. No activities nothing, fees is 100 rs, all rooms are locked and monkeys around. There is one canteen outside the garden but nothing in it actually. Rooms don't even have AC and rates are too high if you take it on rent. Low cost rooms are down the hill, the road to it is worst for vehicles don't know there is some road or not but for walking its worst.
