Chamunda Devi Temple Overview

Ranked 1 of 24 sightseeing in Chamba

The Chamunda Devi Temple is one of the most frequented worship centres in the region, dedicated to Chamunda Devi, a manifestation of Goddess Durga who killed demons like Chanda and Munda, according to Hindu mythology. The shrine was built by Raja Umed Singh in 1762.

The attractions of the shrine are animal and floral motifs carved on the ceiling. Some of the other highlights of the shrine are the wooden construction and gabled roof of slates. Besides, the temple also features a ‘mandap’ and an agni-kund (fire pit). The mandapa exhibits human figures on the pillars and brackets carved in panelled ceiling of wood. The ‘mandap’ entrance features a votive bell, which has a Nagari inscription.

From the temple, beautiful views of the Chamba valley and widespread Himalayan range are available. Located atop the Shah Madar hills, opposite to the township, the temple can be accessed by 378 steps. Visitors can also reach the temple by a 3 km motorable road from the city centre.

Holy Shrine of Chamunda Devi Ji

The Chamunda Devi Temple gives an amazing view of Chamba town and worshipped for Goddess Durga. We can reach the temple either by climbing hundreds of steps OR driving a car right till the back entrance. Must visit place for nature lovers.

The oldest temple of Goddess Chamunda

When I visited this place I liked the view and it's been a religious place. But it is most famous for view. It's been situated at the top of the hill in above Chamba Market, from where you can easily see whole Chamba. The scene looks beautiful at the night time. It's be a very old temple and at height but has roads to reach there. I like this whole Chamba view from there

This shakti peeth is in breathtaking location and surroundings

The place is so divine. A long Q waits always to get the blessings of goddess Chamba. The temple is on a small hill top that is actually easy to access. On finishing the darshan we move out to be on the river bank of River Ravi. The bank is so beautifully constructed with bridge to reach the other side of the river, while all along we have a small park like place with boating for the children to enjoy time at the temple.

Feels the Presence of God

This temple is located little away from the main city. However one who visit the temple realises the power of God. Its on the top of the hill from where Chowgan is viewed. I would only say awesome and divine experience.
