Chapora Fort Overview

Ranked 3 of 6 sightseeing in Anjuna Beach

Chapora Fort, which is situated on Anjuna-Beach in Goa, is one of the famous sightseeing attractions among travellers. The Chapora Fort was built by Adil Shah, the ruler of Bijapur and therefore, the fort has been named as the town of Shah that is Shahpura.

The fort was built in order to keep a watch on Hindu raiders who wanted to set up their territory in Goa. Around 1617, the Portuguese rebuilt the fort and made underground tunnels in order to escape at the time of any emergency. After the rule of the Portuguese, Chapora Fort was never occupied again by any ruler and was abandoned.

Built in red laterite stones, the fort has steep slopes on all the sides and stands on an area which has irregular outer plan. The fort is one of the popular attractions as it gives a view of the Anjuna-Beach and the Vagator Beach. Tourists can reach this site by hiring taxis and buses.

Great view & facebook content

Picturesque view!A bit stressful to climb the fort and reach but very nice place for taking pictures and viewing the sea view! You can see the Vagator beach from there that's just below the hill!Infact you can climb off the hill to Vagator beach for an adventure. The beautiful resort can be seen from there. It is a Rocky sea with overwhelming ocean currents hitting the rocks that is a beautiful experience!

Scenic and serene

The fort is located in Bardez, Goa and is just rising above the Chapora river. It is easily approachable fromMapusa which is located at a short distance of 10 kms. You can either take a personal drive or you can take a bus (starting from Mapusa) which will take you to the fort while ferrying to the final destinations of Anjuna.

Good location

Chapora fort is an abandoned fort. Not very well maintained. It's on height near vagater beach. It is good to visit at least once for nice views of nearby places.

Nice place for Great Views of Vagator Beach, Chapora River & Morjim Beach

Chapora Fort is just before the popular Vagator Beach in Goa & it is a nice place to go to for Great Views of Vagator Beach, Chapora River & Morjim Beach. From the Parking Lot, it is a very steep climb up, so avoid taking elderly persons or small children & do not go there when it is raining, as it will be slippery & risky. The Fort itself is in ruins & save for the boundary walls, there is really nothing else left. It however encompasses a large area & you get some fantastic views from the top of the popular Vagator Beach on one side, the huge Chapora River on the other side & the lovely Morjim Beach across the bay. A lovely place to spend some time at to get a Birds Eye View of the surroundings & good exercise too climbing up & down the steep slope leading to the Fort. A must visit if you are in the area & have not been here before.

Magnetic sea view

A most famous destination apart from pristine beaches in Goa. It's not a fort in true sense but it's having a boundary walls. The fort is easy to reach via bikes and there is a steep trek so for young people it's always a visiting place. The size is huge and a lot of open space for enjoying the scenery. Best timing would be early morning since there are less tourists and can enjoy the place fully.

Waste of time and energy !!

Why would one want to climb so high when there is nothing much to see from up there. Sheer waste of time and energy as far as I'm concerned. In case you must go, then make sure you're wearing comfortable and strong shoes with a good gripping sole, as the climb to and way back from the fort is quite steep and tricky. It looks easy but as they say looks are deceptive. Specially dangerous for those who are not into much physical activity.

Awesome place

The best place in Goa to have fun with friends. We have to climb the steep to reach the top which is a quite difficult task. But once you're past that you'll feel you never wanna come back. A beautiful sunset makes this place romantic. And the view of the sea and beach from above makes it spectacular. A must visit place in Goa. Enjoy your holiday.
