A place with historical importance and lot of tourist attrations nearby
Cheruvathur town, between Payyanur and Nileshwaram has many trourist attractions in and around like the ruins of the Dutch Fort, the Valiyaparamba island about 5 Kms from the town, Veeramala Hills, the upcoming fishing harbor etc. It is only 10 Kms from Nileshwaram but we spent a day visiting the Veeramala Hills and the ruins of the Dutch fort, the Island of Valiyaparamba in the Arabian Sea which is surrounded by back waters which is a good fishing spot etc.

A well-maintained fort which is captured in many films
It is well cared by the archaeological department. The fort has been captured in many films, among them is Roja. Food is available outside the fort. Activities and things to do: Climb up to the top of the fort and get a fantastic view of the sea. The restaurant beside the fort is a very good one.
