Lured into buying Chikan cloths

If you come out of Bara Imambara, the chowk chikan shops, hijack you in a rickshaw into Chowk. The shops offer you sofas to sit after walking around the monuments. They offer tea also. Luring you to shop. No one can avoid it . However they showed me a woman doing chikan work - about 5 types were there - done on different kind of fabrics . You have to be a skillful bargainer in these shops. 10% if you buy only one dress. 15% if you buy two. The prices itself is much lower than Hazratganj Sewa chikan. But the finishing is not done well. All the threads were hanging. Even when I asked them to cut it and give. The work was half done. The work is equally good.

Lucknow culture is reflected here

This is a mixed locality-market as well as residential. Foodies come here for famous Lucknowi dishes_kebabs and Biryani, and for Raja ki Thandai and chat. Ideal for shopping on a budget for Chikan embroidery.

Good Market

It is a good market to go and have a walk. One can try the Makkhan Malai at the entry only. Rajaji Ki thandai and Black Gajar ka halwa inside the market just opposite to Tunday Kababi. And there are many more things to buy for families and kids. We visited it in the evening, so it was a good atmosphere at that time.

Chowk-king of awadhi food

When you visit Lucknow and want to enjoy real delicacies of awadh (present day Lucknow ) then visit to chowk is must. Start your journey by heritage walk from Shahid Smarak to Bada Imambada -enjoy Imambara and Bhool Bhulaiya, then hire a tanga from stand for chowk visit. Visit art gallery and chota imambara on the way reach Gol Darwaza, leave you tanga here and enjoy Makkhan Malai here (a rare sweet available in winters )and aam ki Kheer of radhe sweets (only in summer )and desi ghee ke haste and jalebi of radhey and malai paan of ram assery, and of course kachoris at kusum deep and shahi Tukda, there is much more in chowk if you are a non veg lover, so I can only say that awadh and specially chowk, leaves you with a feeling to return again and again to revisit this place.

A Traditional Old Market..!!

It is a Old Traditional Market of Lucknow Where you can find every thing i.e from Lucknowi food (Kabab, Paratha, Biryani) to Wholesale Lucknowi Chicken(Cloth) work, it has a Chor Bazar also where you can find used Electronic items, to artifacts etc. Only thing that as this market is situated in old Lucknow it is in the congested lanes and bylanes where you find difficult to move.

Get lost in the street food

Offers a great variety of food and chikan clothes, famous for tunday kebabs, its advisable to take a rickshaw from the main circle you get shared autos to other major locations of Lucknow from there. Visited there last week and this should be a good time to visit, its quite similar to chandni chowk of Delhi where you would be a happy customer if you know how to bargain. You get phirni, daulat ki chaat and other varieties of mithai if you allow yourself to get lost in the streets.
