Chowpatty Beach Overview

Ranked 23 of 769 sightseeing in Mumbai

Chowpatty Beach, officially known as Girgaum Chowpatty, is one of the most famous beaches in India. The beach is not as famous for activities like sunbathing or swimming as for its street food. Every evening, the beach is crowded by people of all ages, along with food kiosks, ferries and balloon sellers. Tourists can either sit under the shade of stunted trees to relax or taste the flavours of variety of street food.

In the evening, the scene at the beach is similar to that of a carnival. Travellers can even catch a glimpse of a street play or a film shoot at the beach. Chowpatty Beach is also famous for its Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, when thousands of people from all over the city gather at the beach. The ceremony mainly involves immersion of the idols of Lord Ganapati into the Arabian Sea.

Chowpatty beach is easily accessible by a cab, auto rickshaw, or a bus transport in Mumbai.

Best beach in Mumbai

You will get peace of mind and refreshing atmosphere. It is the longest beach in Mumbai. Monsoon season is the best to visit. Good for foodies. Crowded on weekends. You can easily get Mumbai street food here. Overall lovely place. I love to visit this place again and again.

Unclean but worth seeing

Unlike the other places of Mumbai which are nice, clean and well maintained, the chowpatty beach is an exception.. It's not neat and clean but you can feel like the common Mumbaikar here.. You can get a distinct view of the marine drive from here that is worth seeing.

Very nice sea shore

It is in Mumbai. A place worth visiting by the children and the grown ups. You can sit on the sands and watch the sea waves for hours, without getting bored. You can see the Wilson College just at the starting of the beach. Then u also see the beautiful Marine Drive, famous for the Queen's Necklace(lights at night). There are vendors selling fast food like Chaats, pav-bhaji, kulfi-falooda, mixed icecreams.

A beach close to the station

First of all it's very close to the Western Railway and it's free as well. Beach is clean and well-maintained. You will get mats to sit down and enjoy the sunset at this beach, for pay of course. They have their own food court around this beach, maintained on one side so that the visitors aren't disturbed.

This is so energetic.... :) the rush I loved it. In Winters it is mind blowing. I suggest Winters+Juhu Beach, mind blowing experience. You should visit once in your life and also during Ganapati festivals.

Good beach for food only

This is a place where you find good food, from fast food to main courses. But the beach is not that clean. The place is crowded and you won't get peace here. It has limited space so you will end up adjusting with other people. Go at a time such as early morning just to enjoy. At that time you won't get much options to eat but that is the time you will be able to enjoy and click good pics.

Amazing experience

I went there 6 months ago during the sunset hours. It was so good to see the sunset. Also the cold breezes takes your fun a step ahead. This is a place that you can visit with your family too.
