Dargah Sharif Overview

Ranked 2 of 53 sightseeing in Ajmer

Dargah Sharif, venerated by both Hindus and Muslims is the tomb of Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti. He was a Sufi saint who came from Persia and devoted his life to the service and welfare of the poor and downtrodden. Constructed in several stages, the gate with silver doors forms the entrance of the site. The actual tomb of the saint is enveloped by a silver railing and a marble screen. This has been made of marble and a gold plated dome.

In his remembrance, every year 'Urs' is held in this region for six days. The duration has religious significance, owing to the belief that when he was 114 years old, the saint locked himself in a room for six days to pray, and left his mortal body in solitude.

It is believed that the cauldrons were offered by Emperor Akbar when the saint blessed him with a heir to his throne. Located at the foot of a small and barren hill in Ajmer, the tomb was built by Humayun. Constructed with white marble, the tomb has 11 arches and a Persian inscription.

Dargah

One goes to pay ones regard and faith in the Dargah of Ajmer Sharif. But the decals / touts outnumber the visitors and become an obstacle to have a fair glance of the main place of worship. I would prefer to have Darshan of the Dargah Sharif on a video rather go personally. The management needs to take immediate steps to retain the faith of visitors and worshippers.

One of the peaceful pilgrimage only in the morning

You will feel good once reach there. My suggestion is please avoid late morning, noon and evening timings. Best time to visit Dargah is early morning around 5 o clock. This is only time when you can enter into the dargah very easily and stay there for few good times. In other times caretaker are so rude that it will spoil your mood.

Jannat

The Dargah Sharif is one of the biggest religious place in India and also a very nice place to be. One feels blessed whenever he/she is there. Although you can visit the place any time of the year but the visit planned during winters are more welcomed as the weather is good.

Ajmer Sharif - Dargah for everyone

It is an old Dargah and people from different religions come to visit this holy place. The Dargah is located at the heart of the city and it is approachable by foot. Cars, Horse-carts and Auto-rickshaws are not allowed till the entrance. We hired one khadim outside the Dargah and he helped us in getting the darshan done in the dargah. We went around 5 PM in the evening and day has not cooled off yet. It was a good time to visit as crowds throng during the cooler periods of the day. Avoid taking wallets or anything costly in your pockets. There had been many instances of pickpocketing inside the Dargah. Our khadim continue to reiterate that we should take care of our belongings and be safe from pick pockets. All in all a good trip to this holy place.

A beautiful experience

Have no words to describe I went because of the Dargah and everything just fell in place. Came looking for answers but got even more. The peace, the tranquillity, the experience has taken me to another level. Went at all the times early morning, noon and night, beautiful experiences. I wanted sometime inside the Dargah but I spent hours there and felt a sense of relief when I had to leave though saddened to leave but left spiritually to another level. Alhumdulillah.
