Dharma Thakur Temple Overview

Ranked 7 of 13 sightseeing in Jairambati

Dharma Thakur Temple is situated north-west of the Punya Pukur, one of the holy tanks of the region. The temple is dedicated to Dharma Thakur, the presiding deity of the village. The temple lies in the small mud-walled thatched house that has two rooms.

Lord Dharma Thakur is worshipped by two different names in the same village. In the first temple, Lord Dharma Thakur is worshipped as Lord Sundar Narayan, in the form of a tortoise. The tortoise is considered as one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The presiding deity of the village is also referred to as Lord Vishnu, by some of the villagers. The temple also has idols of Sarada Devi and a stone-emblem of Narayana.

The other Dharma Thakur Temple located in the village is known as the Yatra-Siddhi Ray and is worshipped by the Ghosh family.
