Dilwara Temples Overview

Ranked 1 of 36 sightseeing in Mount Abu

Dilwara Temples are a group of five temples that were constructed during 11th century and 13th century. These are mainly Jain temples that were built using white marbles and are devoted to Jain Tirthankaras. The Jain Dilwara Temples are situated at a distance of two and half kilometres from Mount Abu and are sacred pilgrimage  centres of Jains.

These temples have been named as Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Pithalhar, Khartar Vasahi and Mahavir Swami. Vimal Vasahi or Shri Adi Nath Ji temple is devoted to the first Jain Tirthankara, Lord Rishabh. Luna Vasahi or Shri Neminath Ji temple was constructed for the 22nd Jain Tirthankara, Lord Neminatha. These two temples are the most famous of the five Jain temples situated in the region.

Vimal Vasahi was constructed by Vimal Shah (Minister of the Chalukya King, Bhimdev I) in 1021 AD. The adjacent Luna Vasahi Temple was constructed by two Porwad brothers, Vastupal and Tejpal, during 1230 AD. These two brothers were ministers of a Vaghela ruler of Gujarat and dedicated the temple for their late brother Luna.

Dilwara temple

Located amidst the lush green Aravalli hills, the Dilwara Temple is the most beautiful pilgrimage site for the Jains. Built by Vistula Temple between 11th and 13th century, this temple is renowned for the opulent use of marble and intricate carvings on every hook and corner. From the outside, it looks quite austere but, once you enter the inside, you will go head over heels with the stunning designs and patterns carved on roofs, walls, archways and pillars.

Superb nakkashi work

It's a Jain religious place for both shwetamber and digamber Jain communities. Awesome nakkashi work on marble is the main attraction there. Temple is open after 12 noon for general(non Jain) people. They don't allow you in indecent cloths. Capris sleeveless dresses and shorts are not allowed for both males and females.

Very good marble work

This is one of the main attraction in Mount Abu. Situated on one side of the hill, drive towards this temple is pleasant. From police station it is just10 minutes' drive and you will reach here. Confirm the opening time of the temple before visiting here; you have to deposit your phone /camera before moving inside of the temple. Also shorts, lungi and this kind of dress is not allowed here.

Beautiful work of Architecture

I have never seen such a beautiful piece of Architecture. Feeling really proud of our rich heritage and culture and the amount of hard work our Artisans have done at that period when their was no such facilities as compared to modern tools and techniques available today. Hats off.

Dilwara Temple Magnificent

It was a marvel piece of history with religious twist. Great structure averagely maintained given the understanding that it's with minimal govt help. The guides do good conducted tour however they should refrain from asking for money at the end which ends up with a sour taste people will be more than willing to part with help if they keep a donation box at end.
