Dolphin's Nose Overview

Ranked 8 of 46 sightseeing in Visakhapatnam

Dolphin's Nose is one of the popular tourist attractions located in the southern part of the destination. Possessing a height of about 174 metres, the rocky headland is surmounted on an average altitude of 358 metres above the sea level. The name of the place is derived from the shape of the rock, which resembles a nose of the dolphin.

Being a prime attraction in its natural form, the place is frequently thronged by tourists round the year, which offers beautiful view of the entire city. The place houses a lighthouse that directs ships from the distance of around 65 kilometres. In 1876 due to cyclone, the earlier lighthouse was damaged; however, the present lighthouse possesses the facility of cyclone forecasting.

Besides being an army base camp for Britishers in 18th century, the place is also a popular picnic spot among locals of the region. Some of the popular attractions located in close vicinity include Ross Hill, a temple on Venkateswara hill, St. Johns Church and a tomb named Ishak Medina.

Best natural view in the world

Reach the top of Dolphin's Nose. The most breathtaking view in the world of the coastline. Very breezy too, you might get blown away. If you visit Vizag one must visit this spot. Check timings, enter some time in the afternoon, you can spend an hour or two. No canteen etc, carry your own food and water. About 20 kms from the heart of the city. In the vicinity is Yarada Beach. Not as good as Rushikonda beach but a beach is a beach.

Hill in the Structure of Nose

While returning from Yarada we went for the scenic beauty of the Dolphin Nose. The hill is in such a shape that it looks like a Dolphin Nose between two other hills.

Quite and awesome place

Its a must watch. Its on the way to Yarada Beach. The whole hill is occupied by Indian Army & Naval Base. Hence it is very clean & quiet. The place is awesome. If luck permits you can have a look at the ships coming to the PORT. This place permits to have a great look at the whole city from extreme top.

Rise to the top on the lighthouse

A quaint hill and perfectly named. The view from the lighthouse is great if the weather is fine. The gusts of wind blowing can make you shiver in the winter months. Watch a huge tanker make its way to the harbour. Open from 3 - 5 p.m.

Good place to spend sometime

Dolphin Nose is a hill which shaped like the nose of a Dolphin. This area essentially comes under Indian Navy. You can find a lot of Navy house in and around this place. Dolphin point is one of the very popular landmarks of Vizag. There is a light house right next to it. But it gets open only during the evenings. The view from the Dolphin Nose is amazing therefore if you like you can stop and do some sightseeing for a while.

Nice view to experience

Dolphins are nice and attractive mammals to watch. They live in the sea and follow the path of the ships to find their food.
