Heaven for nature lovers

It's a wonderful place for nature lovers. This bridge is about 40 years old. Magic of nature. But it's not easy to visit. You will have to climb down 3500 stairs to reach there but it's really worth it. Taxi or any public vehicle will take you to the nearest village in cherapunji then its a journey by foot

Natural manmade bridge

Trek down 3500 (approximately) steps will bring you to this little hamlet of Nongriat. The difficulty level of the trek is medium. After a hectic walk down you will encounter this mesmerizing waterfall and the double decker bridge made thousands of years ago. Physical strength is mandatory for this adventure.

A must visit place for adventure seekers

This place is 'unique in the world'. Far away from all the crowd and city noise this place is mystically magical. You will only hear the water gushing, birds chirping, trees rustling and see the colorful butterflies playing around. We took 1 hour 10 minutes to reach this resplendent place, all sweaty and exhausted we reached here but a dip in the river and all pain gone. While returning its uphill climb and we took 1 hour 45 minutes. In the lap of nature just enjoy the trek.P. S. : Do carry your swimwear, you cannot resist the cold and appealing river.Start your trek in first half of the day you will fetch sufficient time to spend at the destination.Planning to visit this amazing place, start jogging and exercising a month before and then test your endurance here!!!

Joy of being next to nature and overcoming fear of unknown

It was my best ever visit to be with Nature for around Six hours. Calmness, Serenity, Peace, Coolness, Relaxing sound of water streams along with Adventure of walking down 3000 steps, steep steps, with calf muscle flickering and signalling a big NO to go further, walking through iron rope bridges, walking through live root bridges, trekking uphill make it up a unique lifetime trip.I planned it a solo trip and I opine that it's for solo or a couple or a group where we can avoid kids below 12 years of age. 30 minutes from Cherrapunjee to reach Nongriat.Food and water are not must to be carried in large quantity, options are available to buy the same from at 3-4 places falling in between the trip (considering January month).A walking stick is really helpful to little athletic personality like me. Time 10 am to 5 pm is good.Home-stay is near the Double decker bridge, make sure that you stay for one night there. Retain your accommodation booking in Cherrapunjee and don't bother for online booking or availability in these homestay, just pack your towel and basic needs - you need to carry little weight as you need to walk 3000 steps- just reach there and if you find accommodation go ahead with your stay (less than Rs400).Early morning you can go for one more sightseeing.Torch, Walking stick, Least Weight, Digicam preferred over DSLR, Towel, Mat, pair of Socks, Rs 1000/-Things to buy while returning :- Cinnamon, Bay leaves, Honey.Bottom Line is having light bags, it was not too cold in January a normal Jacket is enough. Don't rush take rest and enjoy nature.

One of a kind

The Living Root Bridge is one of a kind thing only seen in Meghalaya. However this is not the only Living Root Bridge, you can find another one is Mawlynnong (cleanest village in Asia). To reach the Living Root Bridge in Cherrapunjee, one has to hike for about 3 Kms (one way) and it is recommended that one takes a guide (they charge about 300 after bargaining) as you can lose your way (we lost our way and then had to retrace our steps). There are natural pools under the Living Root Bridge and a very nice place to go for a dip (carry additional clothes).

A Tough Trek

The Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Tyrna Village is surely not for the faint hears. To reach the bridge, you have to walk all the way down one hill, cross two rope bridges and then climbing a bit uphill. The total distance is about 3 kilometres and the trek is quite strenuous. But the experience pays off every bit of the trek. I would suggest all to start early in the morning and take small breaks after a while. One can relax and bathe near one of the rope brides as the river there is charming. Also, there are home-stays at the valley near the double decker root bridge. One can have lunch before starting the return trek or spend the night there. Do not forget to hire walking sticks from the starting point. They are immensely helpful.

Paisa Vasool place

It is to some extent trekking route to see the Double Decker Living Root Bridge. You have to go downward around 2000 feet through jungle. You will get 2 spring threaded pool to shift from one hill to another and at last you will get Double Decker Living Root Bridge with natural swimming pool. Upon emerging in the pool you will forget your on road problem to reach over there and will store some energy to come upward around 2000 feet.

Soulful Serenity

We started from our resort (Cherrapunjee Holiday resort) early Morning to this place. After walking 5 km through dense forest, beautiful villages and clean roads, we reached the point from where the stairway to Double Decker Bridge starts.Lost in the beautiful surrounding, I ignored the fact that I had to climb down 2500 odd stairs to reach any closer to our destination. The entire route to reach the bridge is lush green and clean. With less tourist around, I was actually feeling as I am a character from a Jungle Book!!Once we crossed considerable amount of stairs, we reached the hanging Bamboo and Iron bridge over a sparkling waterfall in which few villagers were taking dip. The view was so beautiful that we couldn't stop the urge of swimming in the water. The experience can't be expressed in words. After crossing two such bridges, small patch of houses, we reached this place. The Double-Decker Bridge is an amazing example of people living with nature. The bridge was so firm that one can jump and dance over it without any worry. The most beautiful part of the journey was the waterfall over which the Double-Decker bridge exists. Few village kids were fishing in the turquoise water and beyond two of us there were no other tourist. We spend hours swimming in the water till more people started pouring. This was one of the many travel moments which I would cherish forever.

It's an adventurous place

Oh my God it was a real an Adventure. But you need to come down almost 3 km by stairs, not more than 3500 steps. It will seem like falling down. You can reach there within 2 hours and come up within 3 hours. You will get exhaust for that day. But tell you truly it is something which mesmerising view you might have seen in dreams or in films. But I could say it's really heavenly. But if you want to cross the bridge you need to be very careful. Will suggest all the readers must visit this place.
