Dungeshwari Hills

Dungeshwari Hills Overview

Ranked 29 of 31 sightseeing in Gaya

Dungeshwari Hills, located at a distance of 15 km from Bodh Gaya, is one of the prime attractions of Gaya district. This hill houses a cave which is surrounded with several shrines and ancient stupas. It is believed that this is the same cave, which protected Lord Buddha for six years, before he travelled to Bodh Gaya for attaining enlightenment.

However, his stay in this cave proved futile as he was disillusioned and travelled to several other places in search of true knowledge. Located along River Falgu, these hills have found mention in the travelogues of Fa Hien and Hiuen Tsang.
