Elephant Beach Overview

Ranked 2 of 12 sightseeing in Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island)

Elephant Beach, located at a distance of around 10 km from the market, is one of the most popular beaches in Havelock Island for day trips. Reaching this beach is a hassle free affair as it is accessible either by 30 minutes hike on a jungle path or by opting for one hour boat ride.

Known for its beautiful corals and exotic marine life, this beach is ideal for snorkelling. The shoreline of the Elephant Beach was largely swept by the Tsunami that occurred in 2004. At present, the existing beach is a fraction of what it used to be.

Nice for a short Visit

About 40 minutes from Havelock. The arrangements for getting on the boat are a bit tedious, with about 10 people milling around. But once the boat starts, it is gorgeous and beautiful. The water turns from grey to a beautiful light green to reflect the coral. Snorkel ling & deep sea walking are available activities and are not dangerous. Not much chance to walk around. One thing though-the sea is rocky underfoot and one would have to be careful not to cut oneself whilst wading.

Best Beach for the Advanced Snorkeling

Elephant beach provides you the best snorkeling experience. You can go little far from the shore and can see very nice view of under sea life. No doubt you have to pay 500 bucks for it. Apart from snorkeling, you can do sea walk as well here. There are so many other water sports activities like jet ski, standing sofa, seating sofa, banana ride etc. To keep you busy at this beach.

Good for Water Sports Activity

You can reach this beach either by speed boats from Havelock jetty or trekking through forest for 1.8 km from a place on the way to Radhanagar Beach. Pristine beach with crystal clear water & coral reef not more that 500 feet away from the shoreline.

Clean beach with fun rides & lots of photo ops

Another good clean beach where the water was crystal clean. If you have good goggles and good at swimming you can witness the ocean beauty and will never have the heart to leave the place. For non swimmers they give guided snorkelling and for a fee (1K) they take some photos and videos of you too. For additional fee they offer water scooter rides but not as a couple. A must place to visit if you are in havelock!! The boat ride to this beach was also awesome.

Ocean life at its best

A day spent on this is worth it. A dive with the snorkel or a ride on the glass boat makes the trip an incredible one. Incredible India, Incredible Andaman.

Treading down the Marshes

Here's how it began! On our road to Radhanagar Beach in Havelock, we spotted this board pointing towards the hills that said Elephant Beach, because it looked like a trek it excited my friend and I. The next morning we decided to give it a shot, just to stay safe we asked the hotel we were staying at whether we could go down that path ourselves and to our luck they told us that due to the rains your feet might drown in marsh. They told us that they would ask a guide to come along, once we reached the spot we met this 17 year old who told us that he would take us, we followed him, it felt like the Jurassic Park, it was stunning yet gave us shivers. As we walked deeper into the forest, the little boy who seemed to walk with no problem whatsoever asked us to avoid spots we might slip into. Both my friend and I slipped a lot, we were knee deep in slush but this felt healing and rejuvenating. After a good 45 min stint we reached a Mangrove that seemed like a videogame, the guide asked us to walk and baby crabs paved a path for us and after that an island like none seen before. Calm, branches of designer trees lay on the beach and no or more than 10 people. We went snorkelling in the rain, it was an experience to last a lifetime. On the way back to take a fisherman's boat, although we were not allowed to and considering the ferries were not there due to rain. This was another experience, on the way we watched the fisherman catch their dinner. In short: It was a dream one could never dream off.

Elephant Beach - A Beautiful Scape

Water way journey from jetty (havelock) to beach itself is an splendid experience with views of forest and light house which takes about 15-20 minutes. Upon reaching beach, one will view a beautiful scape with blue waters, white sand and fallen trees with some submerged in sea waters. There is jungle attached to beach with huge trees. Best place to view coral by snorkeling as sea is calm.

Excellent beach

It is very beautiful beach famous for water activities. You have to take ferry for Elephant island which take around 30 min to reach. Ferry operate in between 8. 30 am to 1. 30 pm. They give 3 hour time to see the beach. It is very beautiful beach. This beach is on the top list of my tour. Snorkeling is very good which is complementary in Ferry ticket. This beach also show the highlight of Tsunami.
