Fontainhas Overview

Ranked 8 of 104 sightseeing in Panjim

Fontainhas is known for it’s Old Portuguese charm. An old Portuguese district situated in the west of the Ourem River, near the hill of Altinho,  has been called so because of it’s location amidst several springs. In the southern part of the site is located the Church of St. Sebastian.

Located west of the Ourem River, it is known for the beauty of tiny overhanging balconies of terracotta tiled houses and narrow cobbled streets with red, blue, yellow and green buildings with shuttered windows. At the district, tourists can view the ingrained Portuguese culture in the lifestyle of the Goan people.

Favourite part of Panjim, Goa!

I keep going back here almost every time I'm in Goa! I love the Latin Quarter and its quaint colourful streets. Joseph's Bar is my favorite Street side bar stop for some locally brewed beer or gin, Caravela Cafe is a great stop for some coffee and breakfast, and the subtle art and character in every corner of your walk through Fontainhas will transport you into another world altogether!

Do stop by and get a flavor of the Old Portuguese style

This is a Portuguese community and its story goes back to the year 1770. This is still densely populated and one can find beautiful vibrant colored Portuguese architectural style houses. Please park the car aside and walk down the lanes, enjoy the beauty of old designs and landscapes.Just as the Fontainhas area ends, the Mala area starts with the famed Hanuman temple atop. The temple is very beautiful and peaceful place. From the top, you can also have a nice view of the Fontainhas.

Amazing ambiance and can spend enough time

Would recommend enough time to stroll and breathe in the amazing ambience of fountains. Well preserved, a small church for the spiritual minded makes this a must visit. Wear comfy shoes, and an umbrella, cap weather in summer or rains is advisable. This is 5 minutes walks from Panjim church or Patto. Spend a couple of hours and check out the Portuguese style buildings.

Lovely place with a Portuguese feel

We found this place pretty different but trust me the way it is maintained it will certainly send you back in Portugal era of India. It is a beautiful lane with painted houses and several shops to buy Portuguese stuffs and good cafes and food joints to relish.

Keep your cameras ready at all time!

Take a walk through this living heritage. Perhaps the best preserved colonial district in Panjim and Goa. Cobbled squares, narrow lanes, red-tiled roofs, shuttered windows, iron balustrades, villas painted in pastel shades and the small white chapel of St. Sebastian. Oh, what a marvelous picture. Drink it all in. You can't shoot a better picture than this. Also check out the quaint Cafes and bars for the menu and prices that surprise you all the way!
