Fort Dansborg Overview

Ranked 3 of 11 sightseeing in Tranquebar

Fort Dansborg, the 17th century Danish Fort, was built immediately after the arrival of the Danish trading expedition in India. It was the result of a treaty signed between the Danish East Indian Company and Nayak Raghunatha in Thanjavur in 1620. Till the end of the 17th century, the fort was used for storage and residential purposes.

Since its establishment, the fort has been renovated several times by both Danish non-profit organisations as well as Indian volunteers. There is a museum inside the fort that displays various artefacts belonging to the Danish settlement in India.
