Ganapati Swayambhu Temple Overview

Ranked 2 of 6 sightseeing in Ganpatipule

The Swayambhu Ganapati Temple is believed to be 400 years old. According to legend, a farmer while walking through the Kerda jungles discovered the idol of Ganapati and later on he built a temple around the idol.

The Ganapati idol in the temple is built of pure white sand. The other idol of Lord Ganapati is made of copper and placed in the sanctum sanctorum. This idol is different from the previous one as it depicts the god riding on a lion.

This temple is located 20 km from the town of Ratnagiri and early in the morning nagaras can be heard as a part of religious ceremonies conducted here.

Peaceful temple

This temple is at the beach. The temple is very peaceful and divine and beach is OK though not too good. There are camel rides on the beach. The only issue is lot of crowd. Avoid afternoon time as sand is too hot

The temple is very nice and old.

Its a historical and old place. The jayaghad fort is very good and informative to the kids. The beach near the temple is little bit dangerous to swim.

A historic temple on the sea shore

Located on the shores of Ganatipule beach, this Ganesh Temple is very ancient dating back to 400-500 years. The sanctum Sanctorum was built under orders from Chhatrapati Maharaj. On Ganesh Chaturthi in Bhadrapad, devotees are allowed to enter the sanctum sanctorum to offer prayers. Ramabai Peshwe Dharmashala offers 20 rooms accommodation to pilgrims. Free accommodation is provided to almost 300-400 pilgrims in the Assembly Hall of the Dharmashala. This temple is popular among tourist for its proximity to the beach. There is resort right opposite to the temple.

A divine place

A very divine, religious, clam place. Busting the temple itself feels that all your worry has been taken away. The almighty Swayambhu vignaharta mesmerising darshan gives you a divine feeling. The simpleness and the hyms of Aum gan Ganapate namah can be heard everywhere.

Best devotional feeling

It cannot be expressed in words one needs to be experienced. Please visit the Temple for the Aarti in the morning. You can also have prasad which is Rice Khichdi and Pickle after the darshan. Try and visit the Temple on Kojagiri Purnima Day to see the Deep Utsav.

Beautiful Beach and Temple

Ganpatipule Temple is beautiful and beach is even prettier. You can just spend time looking at the stars and if you are lucky you may see some shooting star as I saw. Beach is beautiful in the morning and during sunrise you will be able to see lot of colours. The flea market around the beach is also very cute and worth visiting.
