Garh Jungle Overview

Ranked 14 of 17 sightseeing in Durgapur

It is also known as the Dharma Garh of Raja Surath and is located towards the eastern end of Durgapur. It is believed to be one of the oldest places of the country. In fact, it is the same place where Raja Surath performed Durga Puja after being instructed by Mahamuni Medhas.

According to the Bhagbats and Puranas, this is the place of Satya Yuga. When Raja Surath was defeated by the Bhils and the Kols, he was  blessed  by Medhas Mahamuni whose ashram was located here. But, in the modern days, it was Jogiraj Brahmananda Giri of the Dasnami cult, who revived the place and once again started the Durga Puja at the temple of Raja Surath. During the time of the Durga Puja, thousands of devotees visit from nearby areas.
