This is island hotel on untouched natural splendour island just near to Karwar. Unfriendly rustic ambience, enjoy living in tents and bamboo cottages beneath a moonlit sky. The hotels offers awesome memo rising activities like fishing, boat ride and tidal pool. Delicious quality of fresh sea food.
It was a nice experience staying at Great Outdoors. The facilities was great. The staff were very helpful. We really enjoyed the stay at the resort, which is memorable. I would also suggest my friends to visit the resort and feel the joy. Each and every member of our group enjoyed the stay, the games, the food, etc.
Hotel was conveniently located and I have visited this hotel twice for sightseeing purpose. The hotel appearance was great and the rooms were spacious neat and clean. The staff behaviour was helpful and cooperative with quick service provided. There was no view from the room and all amenities were not maintained. There was no any delay in check-in and check-out and they organized outdoor activity.
The place and ambience of hotel were so green and fresh. Food provided is appreciable because of the food quality maintained. The most looked thing was the roof house concept, which makes it look different from others. Thus no objection on satisfaction.
I stayed there for two days. I went by bus from here and they arranged a vehicle from there to that island. It was very easy to reach there. Overall, my experience in this hotel was good. I had a good experience. There were lot of dolphins in the ocean. They have a private beach there and we enjoyed a lot. Staff was very friendly. Hotel's location was very good. Appearance wise, it was also very good. It will be better if they could arrange for some activities there. Booking was done directly. No problem was there in booking. Everything was immediate. Booking and front office people were excellent. Rooms were also excellent. Service of the staff was excellent. Food and drink were also excellent. Activity was very good. Karwar as a tourist place is very good. I went there in March with my couple. It was a relax kind of holiday. It is recommendable one.
The Place and the environment were so good. Food provided by the hotel is to be appreciated for its quality. We stayed in a tent and the ambience was awesome the rest room was kept so clean and reminded me of a 5 star hotel wash room. All the support they provide and the hospitality was very good and finally we were satisfied with the place
its nice having private beach for this island is unique
I had initially decided against staying in the Island due to very high price. But then went on for the stay as I could not find anything else worthwhile in Karwar (Devbagh Beach Resort seemed to be very very costly @ 6800 per person per night after discount). Booking : When I had 1st contacted Great Outdoors, I was given a quote of 3000 per person per night for cottage accommodation with 5% discount for 1 night stay. I did not book. As I was going in a lean season (mid Sept) and staying for 5 days in Karwar, I took my chances. Went to Karwar contacted Outdoors again, negotiated for 10% discount and booked the same. Travel : A boat owned by the resort picked us from the jetty near Kali River Bridge. We were total 4 members of the same family and realized that we were the only person being ferried to the Island that day. Although with us other provisions for the Outdoors were also being ferried. The boat ride to the Island was simply awesome -- the boat frolicking up & down riding on the playful waves, ocean winds embracing your body & the beautiful sight all around. After about 20 mins of ride we reached the jetty. Resort staff were already waiting to lug the provisions and our luggage up to the hill. Stay : The whole Island is very very beautiful. The resort has tried to maintain the Island in as natural form as possible. From the jetty to the Resort there is a uphill climb. With 28 deg C and high humidity it would have been a tough trek but the winds teased us to catch them up. As soon as you enter the resort, you see the restaurant at the edge of the hill overlooking the sea. My parents sat straight down there to enjoy the awesome view and have a cup of tea. Although it was not in there plan, they quickly appeared with a jugful of the same. We realised that we were the ONLY people on the resort on that day. So advice is to visit during lean season and on weekdays so that you enjoy the exquisite service. Our luggage was already put in the room by the time we went there. The accommodation is very modest with a veranda overlooking the sea, room big enough to place 2 double size beds and a decent bathroom. It was clean but in a shabby state (few lights were not working, flush tank was overflowing, taps were leaking) but we did not mind as we were there to enjoy the nature OUTDOORS. About the resort : If you are a nature lover, THIS is the place for you -- A hillock amidst the sea, covered by green vegetation everywhere, sea birds calling to you and waves breaking on the stone walls below. The beach is about 20 mins walk -- but we enjoyed the trek -- sometimes the complete path was covered by green canopy on top, once it opened to a steep slope below where you can see the waves breaking into a stone crevice,... The beach is facing Karwar Main Beach, secluded from rest of the Island. We as a family felt like enjoying ourselves in our own private beach. The Island does not have any electricity supply and relies on generators -- hence supply is not available round the clock & is erratic. Water supply is from a sweet water well and is pumped to the top -- the same is given for drinking. During summer months when the well is running low, water is ferried from the mainland. After sunset, the resort becomes completely dark. The outdoor lighting is very limited and is not available during rainy season due to fear of creating shorts and overloading the generator. The food was decent, 3 course meal with choice between rice & roti. My mom had requested a type of fish fry which they complied to. Evening tea was offered with crunchy onion pakodas. The barbecue was delicious. We did not have room for dinner though. The staff is very helpful and courteous. After the sunset, I enjoyed lazying on the easy chair watching the stars, distant fishing boats, the lighthouse and hearing the waves down below. The Morning trek around the Island was good soaking into the Island beauty. The dolphin trip was also nice. Although we only saw a pair for a minute, the boat ride was enjoyable. We went back in the afternoon by the same boat. Although we were picked up by auto from our Karwar Hotel while coming to the Resort; we were left high & dry w/o any transport while returning back on the Karwar Jetty ;-( Tips : Avoid making advance payment -- as has been mentioned by previous reviewers. But its a risk between wriggling out good bargain vs ensuring accommodation. As connection is only by boat, weather plays an important role. In lean period, stay is beautiful and discount can be higher. Reach resort as early as possible but do not opt for breakfast, leave late afternoon so as to maximise your stay during day. This is because they charge on 24 hr basis. There is not much to do in the Island & due to high costs 1 night's stay is recommended. They also offer day outings : lunch & evening tea included. Don't know why the same is not advertised in their site. The resort remains closed in peak monsoon season : May to Aug -- contact the resort for actual dates.
