Hanuman Dhara Overview

Ranked 5 of 22 sightseeing in Chitrakoot

Hanuman Dhara is a great shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman, in one of the wooded hills of Chitrakoot, about 5 km from Ram Ghat. As per legend, Hanuman flew to this hill with his tail on fire, after destroying Lanka. To cool his extreme anger he stood under a stream of icy water flowing out of the rock, which was later named as Hanuman Dhara. Tourists can see his idol under a flow of cold, crystal clear water here. Tourists climb 360 steps to seek blessings of this great warrior.

Tourists can also find an old step-well on their way to Hanuman Dhara, which never dries.

Healing touch

Never seen any place like Hanuman Dhara, must visit for devotees, something special was there, you feel like lord Hanuman is still there. On reaching to the top after climbing 600 stairs you feel like reaching heaven and close to lord Rama, entire Chitrakoot has lord's touch.

OK show

When we reached the designated place, we were told to climb up the 600 stairs, we did not dare. There was an alternative and that was ride an auto, drive about 23 km and reach the top of the hill. The ride was simply awesome as good part of the hill drive was on non-existent road. We were shown a well made road structure but destroyed by the forest department since apparently was illegal.
