Hatkeshwari Mata Temple Complex Overview

Ranked 1 of 7 sightseeing in Rohru

Hatkeshwari Mata Temple Complex is the prime attraction of Hatkoti that depicts the architectural styles belonging to the 6th and the 9th century AD. The complex possesses the main temple that has an idol of Mahishasurmardini, one of the forms of Goddess Durga. The idol is made of bronze and has eight arms and is sitting on a lion with her spike piercing the heart of Mahishasura, the demon.

The Hatkeshwari Mata Temple Complex is thronged by pilgrims during the Asvin Navratra and Chaitra Navratra. Devotees worship the idol of Durga in different forms and sacrifice a goat or a sheep and offer flowers, halwa, walnut and rice.

There is another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The shivalinga placed on the gateway of the complex is smaller than the shivalinga inside the sanctum. Apart from the temples of Goddess Durga and Lord Shiva, the complex also houses granaries, dharamshala and a rest-house.

Very beautiful, divine and enchanting

We started from Rohru to Hatkoti. It took around 20 minutes for us to reach Hatkoti on the dusty road. There is a large parking space outside the temple. On the entrance of the temple complex, there is a Magnolia tree spreading its sweet scent. The large flowers of magnolia make every visitor stop near the tree. Here also leather items like shoes, wallet and belts are not allowed inside temple complex. A beautiful park is being developed around the temple by the Sawra-Kuddu hydro electricity project. Inside the temple there is Mother Goddess Hateshwari Devi. Beside the main temple, there is a temple of Lord Shiva and five small temples. Temple complex is managed very beautifully. And every corner of temple is very clean. Photography is prohibited inside the temple complex.

The Temple

The temple is good and properly maintained but all the approach roads are terrible. As mentioned, definitely worth a visit. Well maintained. Quite clean.
