Hesaraghatta Lake Overview

Ranked 2 of 2 sightseeing in Hesaraghatta

Hesaraghatta Lake is spread over an area of 1,620 hectares and has been serving as the constant source of drinking water for Bangalore for more than 100 years. The lake, planned by the erstwhile Chief Engineer of Mysore M.C. Hutchins, is counted among the largest man-made fresh water reservoirs.

The lake water is collected from the Arkavathi River that originates from the Nandi Hills of Kolar District. The lakeside is considered suitable for birdwatching, and is home to a variety of bird species including kingfisher, black drango, magpie robin, bulbul, little egret, etc.

The Horticultural Research Institute, Indo-Danish Poultry and Dairy Farm and a government aquarium are other places that are visited by tourists in Hesaraghatta.

Good if you prefer shorter ride

Hesaraghatta lake is present 24 km from hebbal, If you look for shorter distance ride then this place is could be suggested. When you take the diversion from the in yelhanka for few kilometers you could see potholes everywhere. Later the stretch would be comfortable to drive between the trees and you could see some interesting methods of horticulture there. Finally after reaching the lake there would be nothing lake and a bit of grassland ., Few variety of birds you could see there . Verdict: considerable choice if you look for travel below 30km in Bangalore

A place to escape from Bangalore city life

Hessaraghatta lake is just 20 km from Bangalore city and you will never expect a place like this in Bangalore. It's a very beautiful place full of greenery. Also if you travel 4 km from the lake you can reach Hesaraghatta grassland which is another attraction in this place. But the entry is not allowed publicly. But still you can go and enjoy walking on the grassland.
