Amenities were functioning properly

6.0/7
Posted 24 Aug, 2015

The hotel was conveniently located near to the city. The surrounding of the hotel was clean and tidy. The interior and exterior appearance of the hotel was well decorated. The staffs at the hotel were frank and active. The check in and checkout procedure was not delayed. The room allotted to me was spacious and clean. All amenities in the room were functioning properly. The hot and cold water facility was provided by the hotel. The Wi-Fi facility was not there at the hotel. The view from my window was fine. I had not observed food facility at the hotel. The hotel had not conducted any sightseeing trip. I would recommend this hotel for other travellers.

Nice hotel and I had a awesome stay

6.8/7
Posted 31 May, 2015

I had been to Gangtok and stayed in this hotel with my family. It was convenient to locate the hotel and the surrounding was good as there were plenty of flowers near the hotel. It was like a home stay and the interior and exterior of the hotel was good. The staff members in the hotel were helpful and quick in services. There was no delay during check-in and check-out. The food served in the hotel was good in quality and the price was reasonable too. The room allotted to us was maintained neat with needful amenities, which were working properly. There were no activities, which were happening in the hotel. On the whole, the stay in the hotel was excellent and it was value for money. I will recommend it to other travellers.

Gem of a hotel with nice view of the valley

6.1/7
Posted 9 Apr, 2015

The Hidden Forest Retreat was suggested to us by a common friend as the hotel-to-be in Gangtok. And true to the word, it lived up to the expectations and beyond. The retreat is not a regular hotel. It's a unique experience and leaves you wanting for more. It is nestled in a quiet, serene locale in Gangtok, away from the hustle and bustle of the MG road. Guess, that is where the retreat derives it's name from "Hidden" Forest. We went there a week or two before the peak season starts and so were able to get the room of our choice. Room's 12 and 18, I suppose have the best views of the valley from the balcony rooms. You might want to be in one of them during your visit The first thing you see after entering the premises are the various flowers adorning the pathway leading up to the rooms and restaurant. The owners of the retreat have to be thoroughly appreciated for the marvellous job they did in planting and maintaining the wide array of flowers. You can see some splendid Orchids near the restaurant area. Apart from the flowers, the retreat has a farm in it's backyard where they grow vegetables like Tomatoes, Cabbage, Oranges etc The other good thing is that the food served in the restaurant is from these home-grown veggies. A special mention needs to be given the restaurant. It doesn't have a menu and all the guests were served the same food with a distinction between veg and non-veg. But the food was splendid. It has the homemade maa-kaa-khana kind of feel, the tastes delicious, the spread decent and the quantities "huge". For dinner, they served soup, Roti, rice, accompanied with dal, subji and yogurt. Everything is cooked to perfection and the yogurt had the right thickness and taste. For breakfast, we had bread and omelette, along with corn flakes, milk, oranges But the best part of the retreat has to be the rooms. The rooms, the staircase were all made of the high quality wood and it goes with the local Sikkimese style of wooden construction, if I am correct. The bedding and furniture were also very comfortable. The view of the valley from the balcony was something note-worthy and you can enjoy the sunset while sipping on some hot piping tea/coffee. The rooms do not have fans given the climate in Sikkim, and it's the same case with most of the other places we've been in Sikkim. The Whitehead bathroom was nice, 24x7 running hot water service was essential and duly provided. The room service/maintenance was up to the mark Bottom-line: Had a memorable experience and a great time here. Highly recommend to fellow travellers !!

The best place to stay with family amongst flowers 200 variety of orchids home grown fruits vegetables. Cow milk. Wonderful place managed by very warm and affectionate family. You get food of your choice and comfort of home. It's 5 minutes drive away from MG road main market. Management of this retreat is very helpful in organizing local Tours. Their valuable suggestions were of great help.

Blissful and very scenic!! Home away from home

6.4/7

We were on 8 day tour of Gangtok, Lachung, Chandigarh and Hidden Forest, Gangtok was our first stay and what a fantastic one it was! It was by chance because of a cancellation that we got reservations and Kesang (the host) was kind enough to intimate us Location : One is in for a visual treat of colourful orchids as you enter into Hidden Forest. This is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main city. The rooms offer breathtaking views of the city and around Rooms and homestay : The rooms are very comfortable and very spacious. There's a small sitout / balcony with chairs where you can have the morning cuppa coffee / tea. The bathroom is very neat and there's hot water. There's also a tv in the room that we never switched on. The double bed is quite big (queen size and they also provide a good mattress for additional adult / child) Service : Good homely food is served with organically grown fresh vegetables from their garden. Our interactions with the host was minimal during our stay, but there wasn't a need Activities : The home stay has some lovely landscaping and wonderful orchid's and flowers. They have their own organic vegetable garden. So one can spend time walking, exploring and admiring the area around. They also have a fantastic and cozy library. The collection of books is excellent and across many genres. One can spend hours with some hot tea and books to unwind in the evenings / nights Overall a wonderful homestay where one can completely unwind and soak in the beauty of the place.

Very tidy and spacious room with good facilities

5.8/7
Posted 14 Nov, 2014

Hotel was good. It was difficulty to tell about tariff now. My stay in this hotel was fine. Rooms were neat and clean and well maintained. Room service was good with good maintenance and housekeeping was nice. I went with my own vehicle. Parking facility was available there. TV was available. It was a guesthouse. They have fix timing for food but otherwise it was good. Food quality was up to the mark. Veg and non-veg both were available. Nothing in activities. Staff behaviour was friendly and helpful. Check-in and check-out was on time. Value of money paid. They have small set up but facilities were good. I would like to recommend to other travellers. I visited with my family. They can customize the bakery. Tourist cannot follow their timing so they could improve their service.

My overall experience was average in this hotel. I had no problem to find this hotel. Rooms were neat, clean, and spacious. TV and other basic amenities were available in the room. Food quality was average. Nothing was available in activities. They did not arrange any sightseeing trip for us. I will not recommend this hotel to other travelers.

There is ample space for parking

5.8/7
Posted 5 Sep, 2014

The location of the hotel is nice but it is slightly far away from the railway station. The behavior of the staff was very good. The interiors and the exteriors of the hotel were excellent. The rooms were really nice and they were equipped with TV, geyser and AC which were fully functional. We had only vegetarian food and it was excellent. There were no delays during check-in or check-out. There was no swimming pool or gym at the hotel. The stay here was value for money and I will certainly recommend it to other people. We used our own vehicle for sightseeing and there was ample space for parking.

Overall we had a great experience and just loved our visit to Gangtok. This hotel is little away from M G Marg and the centre of the city but itsbworth your while to stay here for the excellent view and the ambience. Our room was wooden floored with big glass windows and a balcony with a view to die for. Most important for me the bathrooms were very clean with running hot water and very well maintained. The service is very good, the attendants were always smiling and obliging. We had requested for a room with a view and a room heater and both were promptly provided on our arrival. The owners were personally involved in welcoming us when we arrived. There is no formal check in process ,which is great. The guests are expected to sign the Register at their first available opportunity. The hotel gardens are extensive and flowers are just exquisite. We just loved the garden paths and the niches. We would surely recommend this hotel to everyone who wants a quiet and peaceful stay, away from the hustle bustle of the city.

We booked our room over the phone from Kolkata by directly calling up the owner. This was our second attempt to go there as the first time our trip had to be called off due to unrest in the hills. The owners are extremely helpful people who patiently answered all my queries about the weather, sightseeing around Gangtok, fares and tariff, etc. We reached there after a 5-hr drive through a hailstorm from Bagdogra at 8.30 pm to a warm welcome and a hot meal. Premji, who takes care of all the housekeeping and dining facilities, immediately connected the room heater for us to make the children cosy. The hosts are very warm people who encouraged us to roam all over their beautiful retreat and experience the beauty of the orchids and other flowers grown in their nursery. Our children were given full freeom to play with their lovely pet dogs. They don\'t have a fixed menu but are totally agreeable to serving whatever we wanted to have. The cooking was light and delicious, just the way we like it.

4.8/5
Posted 5 Jan, 2010

This is one of the best places to stay at Gantok. It is below the main city area and has an outstanding view of the valley. The people who run this are passionate about horticulture and the place is filled with Orchids, fruit trees and bamboo shoots. They have potted orange plants that bear about 15 oranges each! The place has a nice walking path, a library with a fire place and some fantastic food. They do not have a printed menu but are glad to cook anything you desire. The people serving the food (Prem and Manju) are one of the most pleasant people you would ever meet. The flower show in the heart of the city pales in comparison to the kind of flowers you find here. The rooms are cosy and each room has a private balcony that faces the valley.
