Wonderful zoo in a beautiful setting

This is a beautiful and big zoo. The animal enclosures have been designed to simulate the wild habitat of those animals and hence they are quite big and spread out around a hilly area. As a result, you have to walk quite a lot and may have to wait for some time to see all the animals (if at all). But, the whole place is beautiful & calm because of its setting in the hills. It is also kept clean and looks maintained. The animals are nice and, if you keep silent, you can see them doing amusing things. The main attractions are the Red Panda and Snow Leopard.

A zoo like natural forest

Himalayan zoological park is situated opposite the Ganesh Tonk and it is a must see place of Gangtok. You require at least 2 to 3 hrs to visit that place. May be you can't see some of the animals but still visit will give you a feel like a forest. You can see red panda here and some other animal of himalay.

Zoo - Worth a visit

It has got some rare animals that you generally don't see in other Zoos. Please ensure to keep the zoo clean. Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is also inside the same campus and their museum is very insightful. Definitely worth a visit.

Nature's adobe

This Himalayan Zoo is very different from all other typical zoos I have ever seen till now. Its amidst nature with a large collection of pine trees which in fact adds to the beauty of the place. There is large scope for photography for animal lovers.
