Horsley Hills Overview

Ranked 1 of 4 sightseeing in Horsley Hills

Horsley Hills, a hill station in Andhra Pradesh, is at a height of around 1265 m above sea level. It is situated in the Nallamalai Range, near Andhra Pradesh's south western border, in the Chittoor District. This place is renowned for its pleasant climate, beautiful valleys, mountain peaks and agricultural fields.

Extensively covered by dense eucalyptus, allamanda, jacaranda and gulmohar trees, various mammals such as leopard, bear and wild boar inhabit the region. The site is popular for the 150 years old eucalyptus tree named Kalyani and a colonial styled building named the Horsley Bungalow.

The Horsley Hills served as a summer retreat of W.D. Horsley, the erstwhile District Collector of Cuddapah District and later became the summer residence of the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

There are various walking and trekking trails that pass through hills and valleys and along streams and rivulets. These hills are largely inhabited by people of the tribe called Chenchu, whose prime occupation is cattle farming. Gali Bandalu, Environmental Park, the Eastern and Western View Points and Gurram Konda are some of the prominent attractions.

10km drive to the top of hill

It is a short drive from Tirupathi and one of the nearest hill stations to Chennai. There aren't much places to see around. There are only two view points. One is located inside the park and another is an awesome place located near a resort. This view point is simply amazing and you will cool winds blowing your hat out. In the evening the sunset is beautiful. This place is worth visiting. The hotels are not maintained properly except the Haritha resort. The buffet breakfast is worth for 100 bucks.

Andhra's Ooty

Also called the "Andhra's Ooty" is about 150 kms from the Bangalore City and is easily one the best day outs from here. The plan was formulated on a friday night and it was to be a 1 day visit to the hills. So we started the next day (saturday) around 5:30 am. We took the Bangalore - Kolar road and then a left turn on the Chintamani highway. The roads were good till we entered AP. The last 20-30 km were not that great. The way to the hills is easy and not too many of hairpin bends. The hill is wide spread and is mainly occupied with the AP tourism maintained "Haritha Resort".The resort has a swimming pool which is a must after the tiring ride and also has a restaurant. The best thing to do is the Adventure activities including Balancing Beam, Zipline, Rock climbing etc.Try to move out around 3 PM if you have plans to get back on the same day.

Best sunrise view

Horsley Hills is 3 to 4 hours ride from Bangalore. Roads are decent for most parts. We left around 330 am on a Sunday and reached around 615, just in time to see the sunrise. Very interesting view as on left you can still see the moon going down and on right sun coming up. A view hard to forget, a few hairpins on the way up Horsely Hills gives a good view. There is restaurant managed by Andhra tourism and few guest houses too. Restaurant opens at 8 so rode down to a small town of Madanapalle for breakfast. Decent AC restaurant but the food was absolutely great especially the ground nut chutney. Overall a good ride destination especially if you are a biker and bored of usual places around Bangalore.

Beautiful view point but with not so good maintenance

This place is about "150kms far from Bangalore on the way to Chittoor via Madanapalle". And it is about "15kms from Madanapalle". This place is very small and can "walk round the hill station in about one hour". But the "maintenance is not so good". Nearby there is a "small zoo" and "few adventure sports are also available here". Resorts "apart from APTDC" only few are present like Haritha Resorts. And from the top of the hill we can have "beautiful view of the Rayalaseema Plains". So I recommend everyone to visit this "place during early Summer and at early morning" for the "scenic view" of Rayalseema...

Ooty of Chittoor District

This place is located near madanapalle village and is very near from this village i.e around just 1hr from this. And this is famously called as "Ooty of Chittoor District" and the speciality of this place is the "cool breeze during the summer in such a hot area of rayalaseema region". This place is also good for a family picnic and nice for a day stay. Here Resorts of haritha are also present which offers a nice stay for just 1200/- per stay. And it is surrounded by nice forest region and it is recommended for travellers to Tirumala to not miss this beautiful hill station.

A cool Hill Station

It was a very good experience we had here. Better to visit the place in December and January. I suggest to stay at night and go around in the night at around 11pm, it is cold weather with full of fog around you. And also go around the hill in the morning at around 6. Food is good at AP tourism hotel. You don't find much to visit around. Better to go in groups so that we can enjoy playing some games and so. The view from hill is very good.

Very good place for one day Outing with family

The location for just one day sightseeing and for night stay is purely paisa-vasool destination. As it is the hill station, the climate here is very cool and pleasant. Here some adventure sports are also present under the guidance like hill trekking and rope-walk.The sightseeing from the top view-point is amazing. One simple park is present. Different birds, monkeys present. We can see the crocodiles here. Please note that don't try to play with crocodile and on rocks of hill.

Amazing View from View point on Top of Hill

I visited Horsely Hills along with my friends. This place gives very good, pleasant, romantic experience while enjoying the view from Viewpoint and also while riding the vehicle to the hill. Here not only sight seeing, some adventurous activities are also present at Horsley Hills under the guidance of specially trained people.Birds Sanctorium is very good here, we can see different types of birds, peacocks and crocodile here. It is one of the very good spot for honeymoon couple as I feel.Note: While riding to hill, driver should be expert, and vehicle should be in very good condition, because it is tough road and contains multiple curves.Stay there for one night, gives nice experience of sunrise and sunset.
