I had been planning for a trip to Rameshwaram for some time. Though mostly people visit Rameshwaram for religious purpose, I was more interested in places around like Dhanushkodi, Adam's Bridge, Gulf of Mannar marine bio reserve park etc. Of course temple visit and pooja was part of my wife's agenda. The long weekend during Gandhi Jayanti and Durga puja provided the perfect opportunity. After browsing the net, Brindavan Residency seemed to fit my budget and also reviews were good. I booked two rooms through Cleartrip for two days. I booked triple room as it would have an extra bed which was a good option for us as we were 5 people including my son. After not a very comfortable night bus journey from Bangalore, we reached Rameshwaram bus stand at 9. 30 in the morning. The auto-rickshaw that we took from the bus stand charged Rs. 100 arguing that the hotel is far from the temple near the sea. I was surprised because all the reviews mentioned it is near the temple. Afterwards I realized that the temple has two gates and autowallah was referring to the gate which was nearer to the bus stand. The hotel is actually very close (5 minutes walk) to the main gate of the temple facing the sea or Agniteertham, as it is called there. Also the fare seemed bit high as it is hardly 5 km from bus stand. Also I noticed that the Blue Coral Cottage which I had tried to book earlier because of location was right across the street. Hotel Tamilnadu which is the best located hotel in Rameshwaram facing the sea was just 5 minutes walk. Though our hotel didn't have a sea view room, the sea is visible from the road outside and just 2 minutes walk. Since we had reached before the check-in time of 12 AM, had to wait for 5-10 minutes before they were able to provide a room. The second room was provided another 20-25 minutes later. Rooms were small but very clean and had all that we need for a short stay. I was happy with the clean bed sheet and towels. AC was working fine and the bathroom was clean. Overall seemed value for money (1750/night). The hotel doesn't have any restaurant, however they can bring food from outside. However there are good veg options near the temple. We mostly had our food in Gujarat bhavan which provides simple thali at cheap rate. The sea near was disappointing as it is littered with flowers and other puja discards. People also discard there cloths in the sea. However we took a dip any ways. It was a shallow sea without any waves, more like a big lake. The hotel arranged for a jeep next day for Dhanuskodi trip for Rs. 1300. This trip was memorable with a rickety jeep on a wasteland devastated by cyclone long back in 1964. The remnants of a once prosperous town reminded us once again of the helplessness of human beings before forces of nature. In the afternoon, the hotel arranged a car for local sightseeing including Aryaman beach, Pambam bridge etc. It was a AC sedan and charged 1800 for the half day trip. Though I was interested in visiting the Gulf of Mannar Marine park, it seemed there was no tourist facilities for visiting the park. At least neither the hotel nor the cab driver seemed to be aware. The next day was puja day for my wife and after that we started back for Bangalore in the evening. I would recommend the hotel as one of the better options within budget and a very good location.
I visited Rameshwaram with my friends, I stayed at this hotel for 2 days. Our purpose of visit is to have early morning darshan at main Rameshwaram temple. This hotel is very near to the temple, which I found is the main advantage of this hotel, apart from that the services provided by this hotel is really appreciable Normally what I have experienced, these budget hotel won't give you excellent services. But hospitality provided by this hotel is good. Staff is really good and helpful, Manager is also co-operative. WiFi also available and speed is also excellent, rooms are clean and maintained A best option to stay in Rameshwaram
The hotel is located near the Rameshwaram beach, say 100 meters. Location is really good as the place is calm and noises are minimum. I'd say it is the best location for someone who loves calmness. The rooms are well equipped as per hotel standards with AC, TV with local cable, Water heater, and cupboards. The room sizes are also acceptable. There's a Chaiwala just outside the hotel who serves a real good tea and is pretty friendly. As everyone knows Rameswaram is famous for its temples and we did visit them fondly. The main temples were at a walking distance from the hotel and had beach on the way which was a lovely feeling. We were told by the hotel manager to visit the temples in the morning and so we did. But there were a lot of people in the morning time. So we also went during evening and that is the perfect time to visit the temple as few people are there. The other temples were visited by us using a taxi which was arranged by the manager of the hotel, a friendly guy. The best thing was the view of sunrise from the beach where we sat and enjoyed the morning. If one is not a orthodox hindu, the place is superb. But for those who are a little bit more towards the praying types, there are also Dharamshalas in the vicinity of temple where one can find the main market. So, if one loves crowd and people and praying a lot, he can stay at those places.
This is a good hotel, very near to Main Rameshwaram Temple. We booked it after personally seeing the rooms. We were given room on top floor and of having window facing sea. Room was clean, bed was huge, enough for 4 persons. They also provided chair & Table in the room. Charges were very competitive. From there it was very convenient to visit Temple for Bhor Arti, for which one have to be there by 3 AM. Tea served in the hotel was fantastic, we ate bun butter with tea Toilets were clean, bed sheet were clean. Only con of that Hotel or of that particular room was the stinky smell of fishes, which comes when we open the window, although we were on top floor. Except that all the things were good. The location is so good that you get rickshaw/tempo just from outside of hotel, no walking. Main market is on walking distance. No time boundation any time you can come/go.
The hotel is located in very inner part of city unlike other big hotels which makes it a bit difficult to locate, language barrier further elevates this problem. But, the location is also a plus point for this hotel as it's very near to the sea shore and the main temple (walking distance) & also to major sightseeing (Dhanushkodi & Kalam House, etc. The hotel is small and so are the rooms, and only has a handful of rooms (around 20 only). The upper & rear portion of hotel is under construction, so maybe the capacity gets expanded in the future. Hotel doesn't has a restaurant attached but the hotel staff arranges unpacked food of choice at very reasonable rates & of superior quality. WiFi works very well, and they arrange Priests & Taxi at request. Couple of drawbacks I found were, Only one plugging point is available in the room, which makes it difficult to charge phone, laptop, camera simultaneously. Bathrooms are a bit small, and don't have mirrors in them. Cupboard in the room is small. The hotel staff are aware of the fact that their hotel is not up to the mark & hence constantly try to provide good & prompt service to make it a comfortable stay for guests. Staff is polite and hospitable, and has little knowledge in Hindi which is very helpful. Overall, good experience. Acceptable for a budget hotel like it. Recommended if you're on a short stay of 2-3 days and have temples on your priority list.
