Budget hotel but desired to be much better

3.9/7

I had read a great deal about the hotel and it lived up to it. I had booked via Booking. Com and called the number provided thrice before reaching the place. Everything went well and the welcoming lassi was simply great. The traditional welcome was memorable and the rooms were clean and spacious. We got rooms that were far from the terrace and had to go up and then down the stairs and then up and down and up again. There were so many stairs and landings to be crossed before one could reach the room that once you are there you won't think of going back even if you needed something . . The service staff was courteous though not so prompt (as per the staff they were seeing a packed place because of the long holidays and wedding season and hence they were struggling) The rooms when we got them were very clean and so was the spacious well kept bathroom (with bathtub). However the next day there was no turn-in or cleaning service or anything. We left the hotel at around 10 and asked about it and was told that the cleaning services would be available only 10am to 4pm and only in our presence. The cupboard in our room was useless and dirty and even couldn't be locked. The table was the jute woven type and was sagging a lot. The in none of the room worked rather the cable service was not working (then cable for the whole city was apparently out). So, the stay for the kids was rather boring while we were at our rooms. The double bed was rather two single beds pushed together so even our 2 yo baby found it difficult to sleep in the middle. The 5 yo son who usually shares our bed too while we stay in hotels while travelling simply could not have been adjusted, thankfully our room had an extra cot. The hotel itself is rather picturesque and the roof breakfast setting was perfect but the breakfast buffet was rather steeply priced at Rs. 180 per person for basic items like tea, omelet and toast and suji Poha etc. The in-house restaurant also offers basic stuff like suji Upma, cheela or such basic thing like sandwiches. Tea priced at Rs. 40 per cup isn't something you would like to order again and again. Milk and cornflakes (1 bowl) at Rs. 55 was rather expensive and when we thought of ordering a glass of milk for our baby's bottle it was priced at Rs. 55 per glass !! We bought it from a nearby halwai instead. Thankfully we had our own car so commuting wasn't an issue. We had to look around for eateries since there aren't any good hotels nearby and the only veg place nearby had a long waiting list. There was a recreational room with swing and chess, a fountain and stuff but I found it deserted each time I crossed it. The barebones hotels is good and other than that is either missing or steeply priced. No WiFi in rooms is a big problem too.
