I stayed in Hotel Star Of Kashmir, for two nights (19th and 20th) on May 2014, with my family comprising of two adults and two kids. Booking was made through make my trip, for deluxe room, with one extra bed. These were the last two nights of our seven day, six nights Kashmir package, before leaving back to Hyderabad On the last leg of our tour, we returned from Pahalgam and checked into the hotel late in the evening. After a comfortable stay in hotel abshar in Pahalgam, and also having seen rather positive reviews in TripAdvisor and such other sites, we were expecting a pleasant finale to our vacation. But quite a few surprises were in store for us. I did not make it an issue at that time, as we had a more or less memorable vacation in Kashmir, and I did not want to spoil the mood, by fretting over things that were not to be It has been about three weeks since we returned, and now I would like to share my experience about my stay in the hotel Star of Kashmir, for the benefit of other travellers First of all, the place does not look like a hotel. It is more like a large bungalow converted into a guest house. We were allotted room no. 101. The hotel manager assured me that it is indeed the deluxe room booked through make my trip. But the manner everything was conducted, the accommodation offered, facilities provided etc did not appear deluxe even remotely. (A) The bed was extremely bare and the fleece blanket provided was torn and dirty. I had to request for a replacement. (Be) Electric blanket or room heater were not provided (staff plainly told that these will be provided only on extra cost). (C) For the extra bed (I. E. Mattress), blanket was provided only when requested. (The) Drinking water was not provided. The staff informed that due to rains the municipal drinking water is dirty, and mineral water will be provided on request. So basically, they do not have any water purification unit, and if you don't want to take any risk you have to shell out money. (E) Even the door mat outside the bathroom was arranged only after I asked for it. (Of) Most shocking is the attached Bath room. Much ingenuity has gone into providing the basic needs in a room barely 5x5 in size. The storage heater is fitted so low, that as soon as you open the bathroom door, you are staring into the bottom piping connections of the heater. You can see the miserable state of the bathroom in the photos. Water was dripping from the roof. Toilet roll was missing, but serving to hold the hand faucet, as its holder was broken. (G) There is no privacy or solitude. The room is in ground floor and in that corner, which is exposed to the main entry of the hotel. Even the smallest sound outside is carried into the room. It is as if we are in the middle and people are going about their business all around us. To make matters worse, common bathroom and wash basin for the diners was just outside the room. (H) No information was provided about how to make best use of the restaurant (timings, menu etc). There was no menu card in the room nor found one in the restaurant. Staff took their own sweet little time in making dinner arrangements. On the day we checked in, dinner was not ready even at 8:30 pm. Manager said that I will be informed as soon as it gets ready. But when I received no call even after one hour I checked out and was shocked to see the dining area teeming with people. When confronted, the manager coolly stated that they were going to inform me as soon as a table becomes free. That really caught my goat, as my kids who had been hungry for quite some time suffered due to the callous attitude of the hotel staff. There was no sense of obligation or responsibility in the managerial staff and the attendants were found to be young inexperienced lot, forced to follow their boss diktats. (I) Attention is more on large groups of travellers booked through may be preferred travel agents and if you happen to be completely on your own, best of luck The one big plus this hotel has is its location. It is very close to Srinagar airport. Just a few minutes drive, it does help a lot especially if you are to catch a morning flight, given the elaborate security checks you need to undergo, till you board the plane There you are, friends. I do agree that I do not travel a lot and may have been naive to entertain such unrealistic expectations. But the facts are there before you and you can draw your own conclusions The most important thing I learnt from my experience, is that you cannot trust reviews/ ratings. The least you can do is make sure the reviews are comprehensive and supported by quite a few pictures of the place, inside and out, so that you can get a reasonably fair idea of what you are getting into. If there aren't any, it would be safe to give it a miss.
I went there by flight. It was located in the outside. Hotel was good with good food. Not much amenities were there. It was a normal hotel by look. It was not a big hotel. No problem in check in and check out. Everyone was cooperative there. Service of the hotel very good. They quickly attended our requests. Room was good according to cold climate with warm blankets. TV and geyser was working properly. View of mountains was working properly. I had food there and it was good according to taste and price. No activity was there. I will recommend this hotel to other travelers. It was a family holiday in March 2013. Srinagar as a place is good. Hotel's location was average. Look wise, it was also average. Check in and check out service was good. Service was very good. Room was good. Food was very good.
Prompt service from the hotel. Stay was excellent with clean and hygienic rooms. Regarding food, was excellent breakfast with varieties but dinner lacks the variety (only the variety), otherwise the food is tasty and good. The location is excellent, and at a busy junction during the day time, but the night time looks very deserted. Staff were very co-operative and helpful. During the entire Kashmir, this hotel staff were clean in good books as none of them requested for any kind of tips from me. But in other places, like house boats, horse riding, and other services, the staff insists for a higher tip than we usually offer. My driver during the trip: - The vehicle and driver was arranged by the hotel as a part of package, he was excellent in all the way during the entire five-day stay in the hotel and house boat. He covered all the places of the visit without any hassles
This hotel stood at the height of our stay, when we were to depart from Srinagar. We had expected the behavior to be of same levels as other places but we were totally disappointed. The hotel staff is totally illiterate, doesn't talk well rather aren't interested, have a cold shoulder always, don't feel bothered at-all for customer needs The hotel though located at the best place in Srinagar near the airport failed my expectations. The primary issue stood as the forced buffet whether it was breakfast/ dinner or snacks though a healthy menu card existed. I couldn't order anything except pakoras in 2 nights stay as either they didn't prepare items or were busy with buffet dinners always. The hotel staff primarily the service guys are prudently rude & curt in nature. They don't know how to treat the guests at-all neither they have a single WOW factor. The attitude when we stayed for 2nights at this hotel was literally to state that "whether a guest likes or not, the hotel will still have occupancy". There were quite a few guests who stood complaining owing to their forced buffets which was a sore point to the extent that being unwell, I still had to walk to another hotel for some snacks as it was this hotel's dinner preparation time The rooms were clean, linen was clean too, food was average not excellent and nearly at half the cost of this hotel, I got much better services where guests were always welcomed with a smile and not a snobbish face with sulking attitude I am not staying at this hotel if given a chance again as I feel that they are totally biased for the guests who book through this hotel directly vs. Those who come on pre-paid packages and this detail will be with my operator too, as I am totally disappointed at the callous nature & totally snobbish attitude my family & I received here The only person who tried making us feel comfortable was the steward serving food as he had a smile when he served, as all others were not even ready to get up from their wellhead sofas to help customers (for chores like changing a bulb etc. I stayed at 4 different hotels in my Kashmir trip and this was the costliest and the worst for families wherein you have your elderly parents along, to stay in Totally NOT WORTH IT Room Tip: Try getting rooms towards the road side to avoid seeing terraces of this hotel.
I went to Srinagar along with a group of 18 pax during 12th july-17th July 2016. I booked 5 rooms in star of Kashmir in June, 2016 for a very meager & reasonable rate. Location of hotel is very good as it is on highway & near to airport. Rooms are so good & restaurant is also nice. Food is extremely lovable. Before choosing this hotel, I searched for the best hotels & reasonable rate in Srinagar, but could not find a suitable one as hotel star of Kashmir has given me a good package including transportation, food & lodging. Staff is very nice, particularly owner of hotel, Mr. Latif is so kind towards us. We went to Srinagar during curfew time & Mr. Latif has taken all care about our safety like our own family member. I never forget his kind hospitality. Thank you so much latif ji. I will definitely once again visit Srinagar & stay in your hotel. Thank you so much.
