The train leaves early in the morning from Chennai. Hence if one is travelling in summer it is better to opt for AC. The food on the train is not that great hence better to get something from the stations on the way. The train reaches around 7 pm at Mughal Sarai. From there one could hire a auto or a share auto. The regular auto(not shared) could charge you anywhere from 300 and above. If one is staying near the ghats like Dashashwamedh, Godowlia Chowk is where one should alight. However most autos could drop you only till Benia Bagh. From there it is walkable to Godowlia or one can hire a cycle rickshaw.
Easily accessible to the Ghats and that to Dashashwamedh Ghat, the most happening ghat after Manikarnika. Although, not very easy to locate among the Plethora of signs, Meandering alleys. The staff are helpful so, one can call them and they will guide you in It is a good idea to reserve in...more »
My family and I took a flight by Air India from Chennai to New Delhi Intl. Airport en route to Varanasi. The flight was right on time and we had no hassles regarding check-in, boarding or the in flight services offered by the airline. The breakfast in the early morning flight from Chennai was excellent. As the next connecting flight to Varanasi was after an hour after reaching New Delhi, again there were no hassles regarding boarding or transfer of luggage. Everything was taken care of by Air India. The flight to Varanasi took off on time and we were again served refreshments in the 45 mins. Flight. This was enough to see us through until we reached our destination.
On our return journey too, we travelled by Air India and again the flight was on schedule. The passengers were fed well by the kind and courteous staff who were always ready to help.
Varanasi will always remain a divine city with the people of India. The 'Ganga' is better now but, much needs to be done regarding cleanliness and hygiene. The city can be better maintained by the law keepers as there is always chaos on the roads with no traffic control. The 'Kashi Vishvanath' temple has to be better equipped to make it litter free and free the area from touts who are just waiting to loot the unsuspecting pilgrims. Even the police are hand in glove with the touts thereby rendering the pilgrims utterly helpless.
However, I would rate my experience of Varanasi enlightening. I would advise not to miss the 'Ganga' aarthi at 'Dashashwamedh' Ghat and the morning 'Ganga' aarti at 'Assi' Ghat at any cost. This ritual renders our visit to Varanasi worthwhile and you are engulfed in the divinity of the place.
Due to accident my father leg got fractured and he traveled with my mom, in spice jet they insisted to take SPICE max seat which will be comfortable to travel for injured person, we paid Rs. 4000 for 2 persons for connecting flight also. But they gave spice max seat in one flight only. Because of which the journey was very uncomfortable, now I have taken up with SpiceJet customer support for refund of the amount collected.
Only option seemed to be fly via Delhi. Only few hours between transfer flights which was good. Would have missed Delhi-Varanasi flight on return due too long security Q in Delhi but asked for help from staff to jump Q. Flights were on time more or less.
