Roads are lovely dark & green dotted with Palash, Ashok and Simul flowers
We three, me on the driving wheel, my friend as my side companion and my beloved as our pillion rider started the journey one hr late due to heavy rain in the morning of 4th March'15. Instead of 5:30 am, we started off at 6:30 am. What a drive in my new Nano Golden Twist over 2nd Hoogly bridge and beyond. The rain fizzled out near Deulti. Breakfast time : Luchi, Ghugni, Egg chop, Green Chilli chop, 2 hot Rosogollas and one big tea without sugar! Drove into Jhargram Rajbari and my beloved's first visit. Filled up to the brim my 15 lit Petrol tank of twist. Next tea break, Sildah, the dreaded place where the Police Camp was blown up by the Maoists. A part of the road towards Jamshedpur was not so good. We waved past CRPF on duty and reached Belpahari. Time for late lunch: Bun, tea and gawja. Enquired a bit on motor ability to Kokrajhar and Amlasol. Soon reached Kokrajhar and then to Amlasol where adivasis die of starvation. Seen CRPF positioned at each corner. But peace all around. The path to Amlasol is red soil and stones up the hillocks. There the end of path. The cute Nano twisted easily and we bade good bye to the silence, bird's whistles and the murmur sound of dry leaves with serenity in our mind . It was then 5 pm when we, reached Bandwan from where you can move into Jharkhand or move to Bhalo Pahar about 10 km ahead. We reached Bhalo Pahar at 5:30 pm. No room to stay. Offered accommodation in school Bari in 1st floor with one toilet having a commode but with no bulb. From 7 pm the Palash Mela begins. The joy of findings new friends is un-describable. The first hurdle: no blanket carried or available! Bed on the floor. Some North window panes of the class room broken. 2nd morning was as pleasant as the morning dew amidst farm land and forest of Bhalo Pahar. Enjoyed Baul group's practice and Kallol Ghoshal and Somen Bagchi's dual practice in the Goal thatched hut. Simple lunch, clock struck 4 pm. Let's drive to Duarshini suggested by Samir-da..Aah..the Forest Bungalow is burnt out but what a view. Sun-set begins, we drove back and enjoyed the 2nd night of Palash Mela in chilled condition. At 11 pm we by the help of Kamal-da , the prime person of Bhalo Pahar put up ourselves in a 5 bedded room with attached horrible bathroom with squat pan. Next day morning we crossed the border of Purulia and entered into Jharkhand. It was Palash all around. We again filled up the petrol tank at 8/- less than W.B. Breakfast at Bandhwan, Dahi-Chura and Labanga Lotika. Back to Bhalo Pahar in the late morning after a thorough bath. We decided to set off to Jhilmil Forest Bungalow instead of spending the 3rd night of Palash Mela at Bhalo Pahar. At 2:30 pm we bade good bye to all coloured inmates of Bhalo Pahar with clogs of sorrow in our throat. No room at Jhilmil as it's a Holi Day! Let's drive on and we soon entered Bankura District and headed towards Mukutmonipur. On the way, why not drive into another forbidden jungle and hillocks of sutan. Road is lovely dark green. Then another little daring drive through the kuccha road of small villages for more than an hour to the lovely state highway to Mukutmonipur. It was 6 pm and then of 7th March'15. No room there too. At 7 pm we were asking ourselves whether to go back to Bhalo Pahar within another 2 and 1/2 hr or drive along over 300 km back to Kolkata. We decided to drive towards Durgapur via Bankura. What a road ! You are never bothered of any potholes in the Dark High way. At 1:30 am of 8th March'15, my beloved and I reached home after dropping my friends Aloke Ghosh at his residence . The journey on 7th has been video captured. Hence is unable to upload most. Self drove over 21 hr. My friend drove for 2 hr. Covered a distance of 1,300 km in 4 days and 1 night. Tip of Advice : Carry plenty of drinking water, seasonal fruits and some woollens and blankets.

If you want to have a good night's sleep and then want to enjoy Purulia, then you have to board this train from Howrah at 11:05PM. It takes around 6 hours and reaches Adra at 5:15 AM. Though other trains take much lesser time but I preferred this because I wanted to have a sleep before starting my journey. As this is a small journey, so a bottle of water will be enough to cover up this. Toilets were clean and train was on time (just 15 minutes late which is acceptable from a passenger train).
