Started on a Sunday morning, ensuring a stoppage-free exit out of the city, although the Vasai creek bridge presented a minor bottleneck. Past this, NH8 is a smooth drive, with lots of places to stop by for food and fuel. Roughly 120-km down the highway, take a right at Talasari, and proceed along the state road to Khanvel. Rough in patches, it demands skillful clutch-brake-steering coordination to get out of trouble.

The lush and scenic hillocks, bedecked with tribal hamlets, a little further beyond onto the Khanvel-Dudhani road presents a welcoming sight into the rural environs of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The transition from a state (Maharashtra) to a Union Territory (DNH) is stark - all of a sudden, the road become smooth, well maintained, neatly marked with signage. And in other ways too, for instance, the sharp drop in prices for liquid fuel, both for the machine and the man.

En-route to Dudhani village, the butterfly park at Khanvel is a must-have. Once at Dudhani jetty, the Madhuban lakeside is a great place to have a stroll, sipping masala chai or taking in the enchanting serenity of the water body on a shikara ride. With only two listed places to stay (Tourism department guest house and Van Vihar hotel), it might be prudent to book in advance.

The reason for selecting this hotel was it's village ambience and proximity to the waters of Madhuban reservoir/lake, as gathered from various online forums. This place also seemed to offer value for money compared to other locations since the travel period was scheduled for dates between...more »

From Mumbai its NH 8 that connects us to Silvassa, Khanvel Resort; but as we leave the Highway NH 8, the road to resort is not at all comfortable. One must not take short distance route but go to Silvassa first and from there should turn in towards resort for a comfortable ride.

Road would be the best option to travel to Silvassa from Mumbai.

The road is very good and it is the most convenient way to reach there. And if you have your on vehicle then it is good in case if you want to do sightseeing of nearby areas.

On the way there are lot of hotels, like Dutt where you would get real good breakfast.

In case you are going from mumbai it is advisable to start at 7 am, have breakfast on the way and reach silvassa before lunch time. Most of the Resorts and Hotels have a check in time of around 12 noon.
