Most horrible experience ever! My flight from Bombay to Udaipur was scheduled at 0500 hours. I reported at the check-in counter at 0400 hours. And the staff personnel seated there told me that seat can't be allotted to me as the flight was overbooked and seats were allocated on first come first serve basis! Imagine the horror a solo female traveller coming from Cochin to Udaipur via Mumbai for a business meeting scheduled at 0900 hours! Needless to say, I couldn't make it to the meeting and had to do damage control, while being basically stranded in a city! I had the worst day of my life then, since: (a) I had barely slept the night before due to the early morning check-in time required for the said flight (be) I lost the whole day as the alternatives I was offered either was another flight (via Delhi, which was also delayed further due to fog at Delhi) or an evening flight (direct) . . Through the airline's staff itself, I came to know that overbooking the flights is a common thing they do since they expect cancellations and no-shows. I was also given a boarding pass and taken to the boarding gate saying there are 99% chances that I will get a seat, meaning they were hoping on last-minute no-shows! There were at least 6 people reported at check-in counter who were denied seats with the same logic.
I was travelling with 2 children and on reaching the airport more than an hour before, was given boarding pass for only 1 child and myself. I was told that the flight was overbooked and that they didn't have any seats to give me the 3rd boarding. They asked me to wait aside for 20 min. When I refused saying it was 4 am and I cannot wait ., The ground staff replied they are trying to oblige me by prioritizing the same.
My flight was booked about 4 days before and reached from Pune at around 2 am morning to airport full night I was awake. When I reached for self check-in it shows flight is full then after 20 min I reached to counter they said flight is full now you are in waiting list can't accept this in a flight . Later I had taken evening indigo flight . My whole night and day was wastey because of jet airways . Is this is a service after payment of 7 k . Even train shows if you are in waiting .
