I travel on my own car. I drive by myself, the Shilllong-Guwahati road is known as GS Road and falls under National Highway. It takes about two and half hours approximately.

One enjoys the scenic beauty of the 'mother nature'. It is needless to mention about Shillong, as it is world famous and tourists from world over throng to visit once. Presently, work is going on for a four lane express high way between Shillong-Guwahati. Once complete, the time lag for travelling to and fro will reduce to a much extent. The road is unlike other hill stations. It is broad enough for a two lane, the slopes and the curves are are gentle to negotiate with a moderate speed of 50km/hr.

Lot of food joints are there along the road and you get Chinese, Indian, as well as traditional Khasi foods. I make frequent trips to Guwahati, and I enjoy a lot while driving on this road. And above all for me it is a tireless driving experience baring once or twice, of all the journey's made till date.

I make frequent trips to Guwahati, mostly on personal work and sometimes on official purpose. It was by chance that my younger daughter's eye caught the site of a lift moving up. She was so curious that I had to somehow park my car, alight and take her to the site for a full view of the object....more »

We hired a Tavera Taxi for 3 days for Guwahati-Shilong-Cherapunji-Guwahati because our flight was on 26 jan from Guwahati. Shilong is just 100 km from Guwahati but a difficult hilly road and having expanding to 4 lane it takes about 3-4 hours to reach Shilong. However our driver of Tai was nice one. He show us additional places out of our knowledge on the way. However 26 Jan was called " BANDH" So we returned on 2nd day and previous day of flight.e. 25.1 at Guwahati.

I have traveled to Shillong after a gap of 6 years and I was really surprised to see the well developed 4 lane road to Shillong from Khanapara. The road is mostly open on 2 sides, except for few locations where it was blocked due to landslide. I had lunch on the way & coming back at Nongpoh - the Woodland dhaba. This dhaba has many items in its menu and prices are reasonable. Traffic was less and disciplined. The barapani lake provides a mesmerising view on the way to Shillong. You can stop by road side and admire the nature's beauty.

Overall, the journey is a memorable one.

Not very good. Road was bad and damaged. Due to too much dust outside, could not enjoy the natural air while travelling in car. Time taken to reach the destination was more. Natural scene along the road was excellent and I enjoyed it. Quality of food in the dhaba and restaurant on the way to Shillong was not good. Food items were much expensive.

Though some parts of the route was under construction but the overall experience of the journey was fantastic. I started my journey hiring an SUV from a local agency. On the way I stopped at Nongpoh for refreshment. Had a good food at Woodland Restaurant there. Passed through greenery all throughout the journey. Beautiful hills, fantastic lake at Barapani and Pine trees on the hills were enjoyed just like anything.
