An evening in and around Humayun's Tomb!

On a lousy Saturday evening when you don't want to do the usual household chores and definitely not visit the mall to run some errands, where do you go, well I ended end up at a historical place. Since Delhi is bestowed with many historical monuments there is no dearth of choices and I zeroed down to Humayun's Tomb. Of late I have been witnessing many blog posts and Instagram posts around Humayun's Tomb so the itch of visiting the Tomb was burgeoning since long and when I got a chance I decided on Humayun's Tomb in no time. After tackling a short queue for tickets I got in. There is one thing which is common across all the heritage sites, they all have great history and interesting stories attached with them. As much as I wanted to hire I guide, to my disappointment I find any. As I entered the main gate I saw that the area was very well maintained and tidy.As soon as you walk across the main path way you will have to climb up stairs to get to the first floor of the tomb. After reaching there I took a stroll around the tomb and took pictures of the tomb from all corners. The architecture of the tomb is such that it was symmetrical from all sides. I love the reddish brick color of all the historical sites. The below gallery will give you the glimpse of the Tomb from all the four corners and few other shots from varied angles. After taking one complete circle around the Tomb I went inside and saw the main hall which houses Humayun's cenotaph. The actual grave is located exactly below the cenotaph.Another interesting and intriguing part inside the main hall was the cutouts made on the marbles and were acting has partial windows. After roaming inside the main hall for quite sometime I decided to head out. The sunset view from the Tomb was mesmerizing. I do justice to what I saw but still I tried to capture the moment.

The Humayun's Tomb

Am a sophomore doing history major. On the first day of my second year I was super excited to have reached a new year, now that I was no more a fresher. But little did I realise that with each year I became a senior, my responsibilities, college works and assignments doubled, making my life a misery. The number of papers increased and so did the classes. Just when I thought I would die of asphyxiation I got an unexpected day-off on Friday which was no less than a boon for me. So to spend the day doing something 'meaningful', me and my friends visited the great emperor Humayun's tomb. Nothing entrances a historian more than the monuments and old buildings. As I entered the gates of the tomb, I stood entranced by the enormity and beauty of the tomb commemorating one of the great Maugham emperors who ruled this holy land. My attention was peaked by the large red sandstones that stood tall and proud.Oh how I envied those silent pieces of art that have witnessed the magnanimity of the great rulers, the plight of the people, the wrath of the military commanders and the threats of the colonizers! They have witnessed the history that have escaped the eyes of the renowned historians and are missing in the pages of even the celebrated historical works. But they maintained pregnant silence and chose to simply watch as visitors came and went, (maybe) sometimes sighing as historians made wrong analysis and conclusions. While riding a cab back home I realised that I couldn't have gone to any place better. That surely was the day I spent doing something worth all my time.

Delhi's old memory

Located near the crossing of Mathura road and Lodhi road, this magnificent garden tomb is the first substantial example of Maugham architecture in India.Humayun's TombIt was built in 1565 A. The. Nine years after the death of Humayun, by his senior widow Bega Begam. Inside the walled enclosure the most notable features are the garden squares (chaharbagh) with pathways water channels, centrally located well proportional mausoleum topped by double dome. There are several graves of Maugham rulers located inside the walled enclosure and from here in 1857 A. D; Lieutenant Hudson had captured the last Maugham emperor Bahadur Shah II.

One of the appealing monuments

Referring Delhi as a capital of India or a metro city by just focussing on the fast life and other high life problems without concentrating the real beauty of it's heritage; definitely would not do the justice with the city. Among many jewels Humayun's Tomb is one of the appealing monuments that sprinkle the Persian effects in its architectural style and was made by Mirak Mirza Ghiyath (from Persia) on the wish of Hamida Banu Begum; in the remembrance of her husband Mughal Emperor Humayun. It is a beautiful place that's surrounded by gardens which included almost 150 graves of the Mughal royal family. Beside this, there are other attributes that define the heritage site delightfully and that draws our attention to capture its beauty through our photo walk, so let the images speak.Sometimes pictures explains better than words, either beauty and neatness of place or the fresh vibe.A camera is a save button for the mind's eye - Rogu Kingston.
