Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary is also known as Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuary forms the core of the Nilgiri Biosphere Preserve and is famous for varied species of animals. Some of the main species of animals at this wildlife sanctuary include civet cats, tigers, panthers, wild boars, spotted deer and elephants.

There are several species of birds like tree pie, black headed oriole   and rocket-tailed drongo at this sanctuary. Trekking and jungle safari are most common tourist activities available at this wildlife sanctuary. This wildlife reserve is situated approximately 90 km from Coimbatore and is very close to Pollachi.

It covers a massive area of about 958 sq. km and consists of a national park. This sanctuary has been integrated into Anamalai Tiger Reserve and can be easily reached from Pollachi town.
