Excellent example of Portuguese Civic Architecture

An excellent example of Portuguese civic architecture in 19th century, the Institute Vasco da Gama was build to impart knowledge in the arts and sciences. It was later renamed after the philanthropist Luis de Menzes Braganza, whose famous family home is in Chandor, South Goa. Today this is Goa's Central Library with rare collection of books. The superb mural in blue painted ceramic tiles were added to the entrance lobby in 1935, and depicts scenes from the epic Os Lusiadas as Lusiada means the people of Portugal, which was derived from the Lusitania, Portugal's old name, Written by the 16th century Portuguese Poet, Luis Vaz de Camoes, this recounts the history of the Portuguese presence in Goa. The Institute used to have an art gallery with works by the late 19th-and early 20th-century European Artists, which are shifted to State Museum. It has a wonderful history and a good place in Capital Panji.

Good yellow buliding

Institute Menezes Braganza and Central Library-apparently the oldest public library in India set up in 1832. It was close to the Hotel where we stayed. though we didn't got the time to visit the place, we came to know that it has been set up in 1832, good knowledge we gained. It is a lovely building in butter yellow.
