Ittagi is situated in the Yelburga taluk of Koppal District. It is popular for the old Mahadeva temple which is considered to be one of the finest temples by the kings of the Western Chalukya Empire.

The main temple sanctum along with the surrounding 13 small shrines, are enshrined with Shivalingas. Other attractions inside the temple are the two small shrines of Murthinarayana and Chandraleshwari.

There is an open pillared hall in this temple which was originally supported by 68 pillars. This temple was constructed in 1112 AD by Mahadeva, a general in the army of Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI, a western Chalukyan king.
