Jaigad Fort Overview

Ranked 6 of 6 sightseeing in Ganpatipule

Jaigad Fort is located at the tip of a peninsula in the district of Ratnagiri. It overlooks the bay formed at the place where the Shastri River meets the Arabian Sea. This fort is about 35 km from the region of Ganapatipule and has a lighthouse nearby which is known as the Jaigad Lighthouse. Though the fort is in ruins, the exterior walls are an attraction because of the bulwarks.

On the eastern and northern part of the fort, there is a deep pit or a ‘khandak’ and its door is on the right side of the bastion. In the premises of this fort, there are three wells, two wells about 70 feet deep and a third well about 100 feet deep.

Very near from Ganpatipule, but you need use boat ferry and that was so time consuming depending on rush. Place is not soo much interesting, Very badly maintained but good for photography only.

Not worth it

This place is almost 20 km away from Ganpatipule. You need your own vehicle to visit this place. It has a lovely coastal drive which you can enjoy but that fort has nothing. Its not kept properly nor anything to see inside.

Not maintained at all

This fort can be easily skipped if you are on your trip in Ganpatipule and Ratnagiri. The fort is not at all taken care of. It is badly vandalized with names and drawing. Even visitors have abandoned it. When we visited the fort, there were hardly 2-3 visitors.
