Like a true nature's child

7.0/7
Posted 22 Apr, 2017

I would like to call myself a free spirited person and I would like to assume that I have seen my fair share of adventures in life. So, when we decided to spend a weekend at the Jamtara Wilderness Camp, I was eager but not overtly excited. The daily vagaries of life do tend to you make you rather insipid, I confess. However, from the moment I set my eyes on the camp itself and its immediate vicinity, I knew we were in for a very special surprise. The Jamtara Wilderness Camp, situated in the village of Jamtara in eastern state of India - Madhya Pradesh, stays absolutely true to its name; it is located bang in the centre of wilderness! With towering trees surrounding the camp and each tented room overlooking the picturesque forest, the camp puts you right into the lap of Mother Nature. There are quaint little pathways, gently curving through thick overgrowth, that lead up to the tented rooms. Even a casual stroll on these pathways feels like a truly comforting whiff of freshness The individual tents set up for guests are more than just tents. Out there in the wilderness, luxury get better than this. The luxury tents have beds that are so comfortable, you will be right at home. The patio that has been setup outside each of the tents is really impressive. You can lounge in one of the comfy chairs on the patio while Reading a book or sipping on your coffee and let nature caress you with all its soothing beauty. You can even sleep on the patio outside, under the lovely night sky with all the shimmering stars for company The Jamtara Camp takes good care of your appetite. The chef at the camp has divine cooking skills if you ask me. We most definitely enjoyed the food there and what made it all the more special was eating it right off the hood of a safari jeep. Imagine having your morning coffee as you stroll through the tall, unbleached grasses, listening to the random calls of deer and exotic birds. The camp arranged for a night time get-together of all the guests at a sweet little spot tucked away between majestic trees. Having a conversation under the dark sky with nothing but lanterns to light up the party is in itself a luxury that come by so easily The people who run the camp are the one of the friendliest set of folks I have come across. These people not just diligently take care of your comforts but also make sure that you experience the thrill and the rush of being one with nature. Mr. Amit Sankhala, the proud owner of the Jamtara wilderness camp is a passionate man to say the least. I don't think I can express enough gratitude for his being kind enough to host us at the camp. Neel, the GM of the camp, takes a lot of pride in making it possible for us urbanites to experience first-hand the mesmerizing beauty of nature untouched by the onset of civilisation. Ajay, who was our guide at the camp, is a naturalist through and through. Listening to him describe how the various animals go about with their lives in subtle, gradual ways evokes such deep feelings within. And of course, the other names that go without a mention are Rafiq and Rameshwar. He took care of most of our little needs and served our meals too; chirpy little fellow who likes to cosy up to you with his interesting chit chats My encounter with nature at the Jamtara Camp has been a transforming one. Being close to nature quite definitely makes you a different person. The experience leaves you in a rapture which will last for a long, long time after you have left. When you are used to staring at computer screens for most part of your usual day, waking up to a view of tall trees and the smell of grass can be truly enchanting Kudos to the Jamtara Wilderness Camp for making all of this possible. All the best, team Jamtara! Hope to see you soon, again Meher
