Joshimath Overview

Ranked 4 of 10 sightseeing in Auli

Joshimath, located a few kilometres away from Auli in the Chamoli District, is a pilgrim site. This place has several ancient temples, which date from the 8th century. Adi Guru Shankaracharya had established one of the four piths, centres that serve as the resting place for the pilgrims going to Badrinath.

The town has a temple of Narasimha that has more prominence than its other shrines. Other shrines present in the town are dedicated to Ganesh, Surya, Gaurishankar, Hanuman and Naudevi. Sankaracharya Tapastali is another prominent attraction of this town.

The town is a hill station and gateway to the Valley of Flowers and is visited by tourists mainly during summer season between April and October.

Fine place

We didn't see any market place for shopping in this area. Joshimath is quite and cool place with basics available in the local shops. It is believed to be religious and holy place. Our stay was fine.

Gorgeous place with snow clad mountain

Terrific place, terrific people and gorgeous topography. Awesome food market, temples and route. Highest hydropower dam cum facility. Takes approx 10 hours to reach from Delhi. A place where gods and goddesses idols are kept for six months brought from Badrinath due to extreme and cold weather. Located as a valley surrounded by snow clad high peak Nanda Devi mountains, nearby Nanda Devi Bio Reserve.

Cool place

Very great place in Himalaya, Auli hill station are very good and cool place. We want to visit again and again Shankaracharya Math. This is the Math established by Adi Shankaracharya in North India. The Math is having temple of Badrinarayan and Raja Rajeshwari Devi. It has a sacred cave where Adi Shankaracharya supposedly undertook tapasya.
