A home away from home

4.5/5
Posted 22 Jan, 2016

Our family of four adults booked at the above resort as we preferred a smaller 'homestay' type of ambience rather than a big hotel/resort setting. This hill-station was chosen as it was the closest to our home city of Chennai, and being only 3500 odd feet above see level, was not too cold even in winter and offered a quiet getaway from the noise and pollution of city life. The 'ghat road' up the hill, though narrow two-laned, was smooth, and less crowded than the more 'touristy' hill towns, and finding the place with a good GPS was not a problem Led by Joel, the staff were very courteous and attended promptly to all our needs. The 3-bedroom villa was spacious, clean and well furnished. The lower bedroom had French windows opening to a good balcony sit out and the views from the upper bedrooms of the surrounding rolling 'hill and valley' countryside was good As Yelagiri is a small place with not too many good eating joints, we opted for the 'all meal' plan which was reasonably priced. Meals were served hot and fresh at the dining area down from the villas, though room service option was offered when we were the only guests at one of the meals. Breakfast was a sumptuous south Indian spread of several items. Lunch and dinner had rice, Roti and curries with non-veg items available on request. The three villa property is set amongst greenery with well landscaped flowering trees and plants and fruit and vegetable gardens Unlike the more popular and older 'hill stations' in Tamilnadu such as Ooty in the Nilgiris and Kodai in the Palani hills patronized from British times, Yelagiri is a smaller hill-range that has developed more recently in the last few decades and is still evolving. Places to visit include 1) a drive down to the plains to visit the Jalakampara waterfalls with its pools and temple. On the other side of the mountain range and 2) a climb up to Swami Malai, which at 4000 odd feet is the highest peak in the range, which is a trek of moderate difficulty. This is best done in the mornings and on weekdays to avoid the Sunday crowds to the temple on top For more thrilling youngsters, there is an adventure park offering various activities such as ATV rides, archery, rope walk etc. And, in summer, a centre for hang and para gliding In summary, Yelagiri is a place to relax away from the tensions of urban living and Kairos is a cool place to experience that kind of a short stay.

Just soak in solitude

3.4/5
Posted 21 Jan, 2017

I took my family of 8 on a short 2 nights break to kairos, yelagiri. One needs to go in a car as the place is 3km from yelagiri town. But its far from the crowd and noise and so tranquil. The dining area is simple, but the authentic tamil cuisine was good. The 3 bed room villa is spacious, clean and comfortable. It would have been better if the kitchenette was equipped with tea kettle and an induction stove. The shuttle/volleyball courts are situated in an east - west direction and hence it was difficult playing on it as the sun shone on our eyes. But there is enough place elsewhere within the resort for a game of shuttle, without the net. Going on long walks, amongst nature, is a prime pastime. Thankfully there was no WiFi in the resort, but the teenagers in my family missed it. Altogether, an ideal place to unwind in the lap of nature. Please note:the photos uploaded are [1]view of the villa, and[2] view from the 1st floor balcony.

Home away from home

4.2/5
Posted 5 Oct, 2014

We had a wonderful stay with my family for 2 nights. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from city life and breathe fresh air. They had decent veg and non-veg food options and if you plan earlier, they can arrange the food as per your need. Each villa has got three bed rooms and a hall with a kitchen. It has got a nice portico, lawns, balcony and open terrace. Additionally there was a small play ground, so there was lots of space. Power backup was provided and it was really useful . . Few Tips:. All three villas are exactly same however the last one has got more privacy If you are going with kids, take all basic food items with you. You can do little cooking with microwave (provided) and can take induction stove. Though I took the vehicle from Chennai, I suggest you to go by rail till Jolarpet and take a cab for 20 km to reach the resort. Can help you with the local vehicle). Not many tourist spots are nearby. You can plan to nature park and boat house during non peak hours. Take lots of indoor/outdoor games, books or Kids :-) with you to pass your time and relax.

Clean and good rooms for nice gettogether

3.6/5
Posted 15 Feb, 2016

Yelagiri is not yet well developed hill station. However due to less crowd it is enjoyable as well especially Boating and venture sports for children and adults. Other than hotel surely there is a problem with good Veg food and cleanliness. Hotel rooms were clean and pretty good. Very nice for a big family get together with 3 bedrooms. Property is green and varieties of flowering trees. A better car park would have been nice as most of the people coming would prefer car as other public transport seems very difficult. The hotel doesn't provide food on weekdays so travellers should be careful and preferably have there own transport.
