Good forest view but no animals - Minimum risk

I visited Kalatop Wildlife sanctuary in February 2017 with my friends. It is 3 km trek. But there is no altitude to be climbed. It is a plain road of 3km length from within the forest. Sometimes you will find snow on the road as well. It is completely safe and we didn't find any animals or any kind of danger in it. At the end of the trek is a small rest house with some activities in it. Recommended to do in day time as it can get risky in later half.

Awesome trekking sanctuary

The Kalatop sanctuary is situated on the Dalhousie khajjiar road, the sanctuary has a 3 to 4 km of trek. Total wilderness of wildlife and trekking. As I went during december I was lucky enough to find snow everywhere, you can take cars in but when the weather is clear, if there is snowfall then you can't take car in. The trek is good experience and you can see wildlife all over the park, wild hens and very few animals can be seen. The sanctuary is huge and regular places for visitor to take rests and sit and enjoy the jungle. We spend around 2 hrs going and spending some quality time.

Average place to visit

First of all you have to pay a fee to enter the sanctuary as per your vehicle. Road to the guest house is worth going, all the green and off road experience will give you some adventure. Except from that there is nothing left in the spot. You can have tea and pakodas, a not so good adventure park is also there.

Don't waste your time

Only forest view is good, the way through forest is good else not worth to visit or waste your time and money as they charge to get the entry to forest by Car and later have to face acute parking issue for such a place where nothing is viewable.

A memorable experience

The three some tall deodar trees outstanding the 2.6 km walking on the mud track with green hills on one side will always remain in my memory. After the walk you reach the point managed by forest department, you feel proud at the cleanliness all around I watched some rare birds and flowers, unique. The place has a forest guest house if you wish to stay in lush green surroundings. It has a small canteen offering tea and coffee. To have tried everything it has clean loos a luxury in himachal pradesh.

Peaceful place to be at

Although, this place is acclaimed to be a wildlife sanctuary, do not expect much to see many birds or animals on your way. After taking a long stroll, you will land at local forest house. The place is amazingly calm, and is a heaven if you want to see sunset. There are a couple of canteens at the end, don't miss to have pakora and tea. They were amazing.

Its in the deep hill

Can not match Khajjiar, on the day of our visit the way to Khajjiar from Dalhousie to Kalatop which is about 27 kms, was not open. The other route was via Chamba at about a distance of 72 kms. In deep hills this distance is quite time taking. Because of paucity of time we could not plan to visit Khajjiar.
