A must trek for trekking enthusiast

Kalavantin Durg is world's most dangerous fortress and one of the top 33 most beautiful abandoned places of world. One can reach base village, Thakurwadi via bus or rickshaw from Panvel. Trek up to Prabalmachi village is common for both kalavantin Durg and prabalgad teks. Food is available at prabalmachi village.Trek after prabalmachi village is exhilarating one especially once pinnacle starts. In the picture of kalavantin Durg it seems impossible to trek but there are steps carved. In monsoon one need to be careful as steps become slippery. These are not normal steps but having more height than normal ones. From top one can see different peaks of surrounding region. On weekends, kalavantin Durg trek gets crowded. So try to trek early in the morning. Overall this a must trek for any enthusiast.

Trek to Kalavantin Durg

25 km from Panvel, there is a peak or a drug situated on the height of 2300 feet, named Kalavantin Durg. Reportedly it was built for a queen in 500 BC, now is used as a famous trekking point. The trails are good and less risky, it is ideal to have a night stay and enjoy the star gazing here. There are locals who provide tents on rental basis and food is also available. It is also famous because it is being listed in top 10 places to visit in Maharashtra.

An awesome trek to kalavantin Durg

This was my first trekking in 25 years of my life. Despite being an adventurous person, I had never trekked in my life. And on insistence of a couple of my friends, I decided to go trekking and who knew that my first trek itself would arguably be the best one ever. We all friends met at Panvel railway station and hired a rickshaw (Tumtum as it's called in the local language). We reached the destination in about 50 minutes. The fare was nominal as we were 10 in number. We had stocked up some food and plenty of water as you need it badly owing to the long trek. Now we began trekking. Let me tell you something upfront, anybody without stamina or mediocre level of fitness shouldn't even try this trek, as it requires a lot of energy. We all despite being fit had to take power rests at times. The entire trek took us 2 hours before we reached the summit. The scenery and the view from there was breathtaking. As it was the rainy season, we did encounter a lot of fog as we kept climbing up. There came a point when it started raining heavily and we couldn't see each other despite being at a shoulder's distance from each other owing to heavy fog and beautiful rains. We clicked some snaps from there and came down and had our lunch heartily. The entire experience was amazing and moreover it is arguably the cheapest trek as one can cover the entire trekking including food and travel in just about 200-250 Rs.I would strongly recommend this trek to every adrenaline junkie and all adventurous persons out there. How to reach :Take a rickshaw from Panvel station if you are in group or take state transport bus till shedung phata and then rickshaw till Thakurwadi village.PS. It is not recommended for kids and overweight persons. Even people with knee and back issues should stay away as this trek is a bit risky and difficult to do.
