Kalighat temple is a popular destination at Tarapith to its visitors. Kalighat temple is situated in Kolkata city on the banks of River Hooghly.

It is believed that the Kalighat temple is erected at the place where the toes of the right foot of Goddess Sathi fell. This temple is regarded as the holiest of all the Sakthi Pithas as Goddess Kali is staying lively here along with Lord Nakuleswar (Shiva).  

Kalighat temple also has shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma in its vicinity, which adds to the piousness of the place. This place, known as Kali Kshetra, is considered equivalent to Kashi Kshetra of Varanasi.

Holy place

If you are in Kolkata and not visited KALIGHAT temple then you should visit this place. As this temple is for offering prayer and get some relief from the materialistic world. So this place is a must visit for the tourist.

A great place of attraction

Its a convenient place for religious attractions. The car parking facilities are also available for a safe and security of the car. The temple premises is quite well decorated and neat & clean for the pedestrians.

Very difficult to get a glimpse of Kali

I have visited Kalighat three times but had not been fortunate enough to get a glimpse of the deity - Maa Kali. It is a very indiscipline place with pandas everywhere.

Shakthi peet in Kolkata

Very commercialised. Beware of people squeezing money out of you.Queue depends on time and occasion.Temple closes at 2 pm and reopens later.We had quick darshan guided by a guide. Within 10 minutes.This place is also one of the 14 Shakthi Peet in West Bengal.
