Old traditional Architecture of Sangla valley

Roof design at this place is quite unique. The roof where made of marbles and wood work was quite intricate. From this fort you can view the entire Sangla village. This fort is said to be the palace of the Ruler of Sangla village. Most of the time it is closed and since we went in late evening we could just see it from outside. To visit kamru fort you have to trek for about 25 to 30 minutes from the base of this village. Before this fort there is one more temple you can see. It is a gentle trek and anybody can to it easily, you have to climb step through the kamru village to reach this place. Take your time and enjoy the beauty of this place.

Fort is just a name, inside Maa Kamakhya is placed

Don't get into a delusion by the name of a fort. It is unlike the mughals built-up forts. It is a 1200 yrs old 4 storeyed temple beautified with wooden carvings. 200-300 stairs to reach the entrance of the temple, open from dawn to dusk. Situated at an altitude of 2680 m.Before entering into the temple premises they'll ask you to wear a Kullu cap and a waistband. Upon entering they won't allow you to visit the main temple where as per priest 25 lakh devtas are placed, giving you the reason that the idols are made up of alloys of 8 metals. The only idol you can see is Maa Kamakhya placed in a glass chamber, though this is different from the Guwahati Maa Kamakhya but as per the locals and priest the idol is brought from Guwahati. Cameras are allowed.

Marvelously built

It is a beautiful fort, although one does not associate remote hill stations like Sangla with a fort, but it is there! ne passes through the Kamru Village bye-lanes ascending all the time to reach the fort. On the way up you pass beautifully carved wood houses and a small school full of children with happy faces. The inhabitants of the village have charming smiles with older people having heavily wrinkled faces telling the tales of the yester years! The fort itself is a marvelously wood carved specimen of superb craftsmanship. Overall a beautiful place to visit.
