Kangsabati Dam Overview

Ranked 1 of 4 sightseeing in Mukutmanipur

In the year 1956, the Kangsabati Dam or a water reservoir was built, which is around 12 km away from the town of Khatra in the Bankura District. This dam was built to grant irrigation facilities to the arable land of 8,000 sq. km, covering  Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Medinipur and some parts of upper Hooghly.

This dam, known as the second largest earthen dam in India, was constructed under the administration of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the then Bengal’s Chief Minister. The dam is located exactly 2 km from Bangopalpur Reserve Forest and 55 km from Bankura and is bordered by forests. A huge variety of flora and fauna species can be found in the Bangopalpur Reserve Forest. The Kangshabati Dam has now become a picnic spot, frequented by people for leisure.

Worth the visit, pollution free area

The dam is worth visit. People do picnic nearby. Water is clean, pollution free. I couldn't see any fish there. Wide areas of mustard crop and lots of bees to feed the honey. A pollution free area.

Very proud to see the scenic beauty of the Dam

The Kangsabati Dam is one of the beautiful scenery of Mukutmanipur, West Bengal. The sides of the dam were very nice binding with stone. A huge river of full water looks like mirrors. Many visitor visit this place to the dam specially. Instead of the dam there was a hill and a temple above the hill, a far away there was a deer park. Totally the area is very nice & clean.

Great for a day's visit

Tha Kangsabati Dam in Mukutmanipur, Bankura is an exceptional place in the rocky terrains of the district. The huge water body is beautiful and is a popular picnic spot. The dam also looks great at night when it is decorated with lights.

A cool breeze from the river is sure to make your day

The place is beautiful to simply sit in silence and indulge into the coolness of the river wind. With small hillocks and jungles around, and a wonderful, silent and clear water in front of you, this place simply freshens you up. The Dam is built beautifully and entire area is very clean. You can take a drive around the Dam, walk by the side of the Dam and also go for a long boat ride. The ideal time is sunrise, as the beauty of the River at that hour is speechless.

Excellent dam

It is an excellent and very large dam. The road is superb and we drove all along the dam and enjoyed. The view of Kangsabti river is excellent and is surrounded by small hills and small island is also created. Adventure loving people must visit this Dam.
