The location is good although it is not on main road but still it's in old city and at a distance of just 5min from City Palace and Lake Pichola. The view from Lalghat is great. I stayed there for two nights, the only minus point about Kankarwa Haveli is that they don't provide you dinner. Besides food the rooms are nice and clean. It's a good hotel for low bugged.
Well it was my second visit to Udaipur so I stayed in Kankarwa Haveli. I couldn't give more than 2 for food and drink as they only provide you breakfast and tea and you have to go out for some real food. The location is good, I liked the lake view. The reception is not so good and impressive at all. Often there is nobody available at the reception. The rooms are good and the room service too. Although the interior of the hotel is not so attractive but it is an average hotel and good for low budget.
The hotel overall experience was good. The market was nearby the hotel. The palace was located near the hotel. The staff’s of the hotel were helpful and friendly. The hotel ambiance was of modern only. The check in and checkout process was very quick. The hotel room was spacious, neat and well maintained. I was happy with the room allocated. Amenities like AC, TV and geyser were functioning well in the room. I had taken food from the outside of the hotel. Activities were not provided by the hotel.
First things first. This is a 190 year old Haveli that has not been structurally changed a lot. For people like me who love visiting places with a history, this place holds a definite charm. I loved my stay at Kankarwa Haveli. The place is centrally located and its actually on the lake (unlike a few others who claim so). The views from the rooftop restaurant are spectacular and one of the best ones you can find on Lake Pichola (which is the heart of Udaipur city) . . The City Palace is at a walking distance and so is Bagore ki Haweli (the two major attractions of Udaipur that one should not miss). The views from the lake side rooms are also very beautiful. We didn't like the suite that much though. It is more spacious with a very nice bathroom but the view is very restricted. The lake view rooms are the best I guess but not the ground floor ones The place is not safe for family with small kids (3 years or below) as the railings and the parapets are very unsafe for kids. You'd be worrying all the time. Perfect place for couples. But the drawback is no room service (which they let you know while booking) The restaurant has very limited food options but that shouldn't be a problem as there are various nice eateries just round the corner. You just have to walk maybe 50 to 500 metres for a variety of options The place has a lovely old world charm. The host family were very warm and helpful. I interacted with the owner as well as his son and that's how I came to know about the place being so old. They're doing a good job Overall, the place is highly recommended for couples as well as families Stayed October 2014, travelled with family.
Udaipur is awesome city and I will definitely visit the city again and again. Kankarva Haveli is one of the best places to live in Udaipur. First I will start with booking experience. The booking process was very smooth and management was very friendly and cooperative during the booking. Food at hotel was very nice and enjoyable we enjoyed the food and service from well mannered staff. One of the best thing about hotel is its location it is just on the banks of lake pichola and you can directly jump into the lake from your room. The rooms are very well furnished and hygienic. One of the best feature of room is there is no TV in the room which was very relaxing and peaceful for us. Those who are looking for very peaceful and relaxing vacation must visit this hotel.
We had our most wonderful & unique stay at Kankarwa Haveli. This is the perfect place for a heritage holiday in a reasonable budget. This is the actual Haveli, situated on the banks (rather waves) of Lake Pichola, with some of its rooms converted in to hotel. Family, who runs this Haveli, also stays there . . We had booked rooms via web-site & emails. Straight forward communication approach of Mr. Janardan Ranawat & Mr. Divyarishi was quite adorable. Rooms are decorated in way that actually gives one feeling of staying in a real Haveli than staying in a hotel. One can have majestic view of Lake Pichola from lake facing rooms, roof top restaurant & a jharokha. There is no room service; no TV in rooms and choice of food at restaurant is very limited. But all these factors are trivial in front of traditional manifestations of the Haveli and there is least possibility that guests will miss these facilities when they relax in front of majestic view of Lake Pichola. For food, plenty of options are available outside Haveli as it is situated at most happening place of Udaipur. However, we dearly missed having tea/coffee with a view of Lake Pichola. They should have arranged for tea kettle in the room so that guests can have tea/coffee at their ease. We had booked 2 rooms. Room no 206 had a beautifully designed jharokha & room no 211 had a terrace in front of lake. Both rooms were best in their own way. There is practically no space available for parking near Haveli. This point should be considered if one is going there by a private vehicle. I would definitely consider going to this Haveli again on the same terrace room. It is advisable to find a typical hotel if only room service, TV and food are in your priority on vacation.
Kankarwa Haveli is probably the best low budget hotel on the banks of the Lake Pichola. This is a old haveli now converted into a hotel run by the family, which stays in the haveli premises. The room fuses a typical old world haveli charm with modern amenities (AC, tub + shower bath). People finicky about cleanliness will be really pleased with the spick-and-span room and the clean white bathrooms. There is no TV in the rooms which is a great plus point on a vacation (atleast for honeymooners ;) ). A feature (typical of Rajasthan) common to all rooms is the decorated window, called jharokha. In the lake facing rooms, these bedded jharokhas give a wonderful view of the lake. Being on the eastern banks of the lake, it provides a view of a vast area of the lake. By the night, the Taj Lake Palace looks beautiful with its reflection in the serene waters of the lake (Note that hotels on the wetsren banks of the lake do nto give a good view of the Taj Lake Palace). One downside to all this is the smell of the water near the banks and the sight of people taking a dip in the waters in the early morning (I must say the jharokha gives you a complete picture of India ;) ). But the view of the lake is simply breathtaking to compensate for these. The food in Kankarwa Haveli is not great and is quite expensive. The arrangement is on the terrace with umbrella shaded tables with a stunning view of the lake and the Aravalli hills beyond. They claim to serve Rajasthani fare, but in my opinion, you get better meals in other restaurants (I recommend Apni Dhani in Udaipur for extremely delicious lip-smacking Rajasthani meals). You would rather use the terrace to simply sit and watch the lake under the moonlit sky and stars by the night and enjoy the cool breeze. Cold-drinks, mineral water etc at the hotel is expensive. The house-keeping staff is courteous and prompt. However, the owner is quite rude. You can see that he is more interested in entertaining his foreigner guests rather than waste his time on the Indian guests. We had some issues with our bill (extra items charged to our bill) and he was extremely rude when we asked him to check and correct. We suggest you ignore him and enjoy the room. Kankarwa Haveli is more of a hotel suitable for night stay while you spend the day sightseeing. So, there are no activities it has to offer. Though, it has a decent collection of books. You can simply pick up a book, curl up in your jharokha and read with a good view of the lake. Though the hotel does not have many activities to keep you occupied, Udaipur in itself with its beautiful lakes has a lot to offer for vacationers and honeymooners. Kankarwa Haveli is located right in the market area. As soon as you step out of the hotel, you enter the small bylanes of Udaipur where you can literally spend hours shopping for anything Rajasthani - dresses, sarees, purses, paintings, jewellery and what not. Even if you are not interested in particularly buying anything, it is a pleasure to simply walk around browsing through the colorful articles that the local people have on display.
