Keerthi Narayana Temple Overview

Ranked 3 of 8 sightseeing in Talkad

The Keerthi Narayana Temple was constructed by the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhan and was excavated in 1911. Idols of Keerthi Narayana along with the statue of Ranganathar were installed in the temple by the king. Initially, there was a sannidhi of Sundaravalli Thayar, which was later replaced by the navaranga mandapam having a statue of Keerthi Narayana.

There are idols of Ramanujar, Vedantha Desikar and Nammazhwar inside the main temple complex. The temple also has an ‘ardha mandapam’ that has idols of Yoga Narasimhar and Viswasenar.

There is a 9 ft tall Lord Vishnu statue in a standing position on a ‘garuda peedam’ inside the temple. This statue holds a shangu, a chakram, a mace and a lotus in four hands.
